• Hello everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well, thanks for taking your time to take a look at my issue:

Problem 1: No “Upload” buttons in WordPress; is it not available in WordPress version 2.1.3? I would upgrade but….
Problem 2:Unable to connect through FileZilla. I followed the directions for FileZilla here on wordpress; when I click connect though it gives me the following messages:

    Status: Connecting to succeed-with-me.com …
Status: Connected with succeed-with-me.com. Waiting for welcome message…
Response: 220 ProFTPD 1.3.1rc2 Server (DreamHost FTP) [208.113.136.79]
    Command: USER admin
Response: 331 Password required for admin
    Command: PASS *********
    Response: 530 Login incorrect.
    Error: Unable to connect!

One box in FileZilla that wasn’t mentioned or in the pictures for the instructions was “account,” so I didn’t fill that out. I did fill out everything else though.

My huge thanks to anyone that can help. I got extremely frustrated yesterday as I spent hours trying to figure out how to upload a theme. It seems a little strange wordpress doesn’t have an upload button on the site. Why is that? Also if you feel like answering: What is the point in an ftp server when a site can just put an upload button on to it? I am new to the whole ftp thing.

    Thanks so much,

    Sincerely,
    –Sean Simpson

  • Only your host will be able to help you with what your FTP username/password is.

And what upload button are you referring to?

HandySolo – Thanks for the quick response. I’ll check out with the host then about the FTP issue.

Regarding the Upload button — I expected that wordpress would have an upload button for users to upload a theme or plugins. I thought I saw some mention that past versions of wordpress had one, but mine doesn’t.

    Thanks,
    –Sean
p.s. While I will contact the server, I’d like to ask, from your own experience: Have you put the same user name and password into the FTP server that you would when logging into your wordpress site/account? For example, I input the same user name and password as I do when I go to “mywordpresssite.com/wp-login.php”

There aren’t any upload buttons that I’m aware of. Just the one for images on the Post Editor page.

As far as usernames, I’d expect your ftp user/pass to be different from your WordPress login.
