I’ve just upgraded my blog to version 2.6.3.

Immediately I noticed that I cannot use the visual editor to write. The “visual” tab appears to be selected, but I’m in HTML. Nothing changes when I click either tab.

So looking around, I see that many people have had this problem. They’re advised to go into their user profile and check the “use visual editor” tickbox, but the problem is I seem to have no such option. I’ve gone into “Users” and then “Your profile” and the option is nowhere to be found. Looking around the rest of the options, it’s just not there. This is driving me crazy!

Can someone suggest to me why I don’t have such an option, or if I’m looking in the wrong place, where to find it?

Issue still not resolved. I’ve since found a screen shot online of someone else’s profile screen and I notice that the “use visual editor” option is directly above the “Admin color scheme” selector. In my profile, it’s just not there.

Does anyone know of any possible reason why my installation of WordPress doesn’t have this option?

Perfect! Thanks. I had all of the files but none of the folders.

Although why this was so remains a mystery.

Did you, by any chance, use Filezilla to upgrade your WordPress to 2.6.3?

I read somewhere that it appears to be a Filezilla bug that has caused this, which makes sense because I checked WordPress 2.6.3 zip file and there are no missing files there.

I did indeed use Filezilla. Hmm, the plot thickens. I actually stopped using Filezilla a while back because sometimes when I was uploading new versions of files when I was developing my website, it would go through the motions yet not actually replace them. So I switched to Core FTP Lite – but after a recent reinstall of my O/S, it won’t connect to my domain for some reason. So I’m back to Filezilla again.

Problem now resolved. After I replaced the folders you mentioned I did regain my “use visual editor” option, but unfortunately the visual editor was not working. After much head scratching and searching around I found this solution:

Removing the files from wp-content/uploads/js_cache did the trick. I also looked at the WPLANG variable in wp-config and lo and behold its value was ” ” instead of “en”. I fixed this also. Everything is working fine now. Looks like Filezilla wasn’t the culprit after all…this time!

Ikki24, you saved my blog! thx!
