I installed this plugin thinking that it would be simple plug-and-play to creating an FAQ.

For a beginner, this is incredibly difficult. The only video tutorials refer to specific settings or short codes.

One support reply mentioned an automatically generated walkthrough that can be reinitialized after first install, but I never saw that and it doesn’t appear anywhere.

How do I add questions and answers to my FAQ? This is the simplest and most obvious starting point, and it isn’t explained in any of the documentation.

    Hi Coleman,

Sorry that you had trouble getting the plugin set up. When you first activate it, it is supposed to automatically run a walk-through that helps you create your first FAQ, FAQ categories and FAQ page, as well as set some key options. If, for some reason, that didn’t run, or you need to run it again, you can do so at any time, at the following admin URL: admin.php?page=ewd-ufaq-getting-started

So, let’s say, for example, your website URL is https://www.my-great-site.com/

Then, the URL to re-run the walk-through would be: https://www.my-great-site.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=ewd-ufaq-getting-started

Beyond that, the FAQs are set up like a post type, so that creating them should be familiar, in that it is the exact same process as creating a regular new post on your WordPress site.

So, to do that, just make sure you have the plugin activated and then click on FAQs in your WordPress admin menu and then on Add New. From there, you can fill in the question title in the small text input area at the top (where you would put the title for a regular post) and then use the large text input area to write your answer for the FAQ. Once you save the post, it will automatically display on your FAQ page.

And, to make that FAQ page, you can insert either the [ultimate-faqs] shortcode or the “Display FAQs” Gutenberg block to any existing page you have on your website.

And, if you have any specific questions about features or setting it up, just let me know and I can help.

    Thanks!

I think a lot of confusion could be alleviated if you wouldn’t call your questions “FAQs” in your documentation and user interface. When I think of a FAQ, I think of the whole page. I imagine this is the same for many people. Every time I saw “add FAQ” I thought I was adding an entire FAQ page, so I tried to build all my questions inside that FAQ. If I saw “Add question” that would have made so much more sense.

I have an additional question. One of the reasons I purchased this software was because users can submit questions. However, that feature is useless unless the admin can decide whether those questions get posted or whether they are initially hidden until approved. What happens when a user submits a question, and is it possible to make sure it remains hidden until an admin approves it?

That’s exactly how it works by default. The post is saved as a draft and you have to manually publish (i.e. approve) it in order for it to actually show on your site.

If you have any questions about this process or any issues with the submit question feature, you’ll need to contact us via email or our website (https://www.etoilewebdesign.com/support-center/), as this is a premium feature and discussion of the premium version is not allowed in these forums (https://www.ads-software.com/support/guidelines/#do-not-post-about-commercial-products).
