    Good day,

I have been struggling with a Google Analytics tracking problem from the start. My site is a new site and has only been live for about a month. I used Google Tag Manger and Google Analytics to set-up specific tracking events and one destination tracking. All of this is working great and as expected except for the destination tracking of my ‘/thank-you/’ page.

I obviously set Yoast page settings to not show the ‘/thank-you/’ page in search results – noindex. I also have a destination tracking goal in Google Analytics but no goals have ever been recorded. Doing some troubleshooting I also realized the ‘/thank-you/’ page does not even show up in the Analytics pages list in “behavior>site content>all pages” but visiting the page it does show in the ‘realtime’ reports.
As a test I removed the Yoast ‘noindex’ setting (Allow search engines to show this Page in search results? set to Yes) from the ‘/thank-you/’ page and lo and behold the page is suddenly being tracked and goals recorded.

How do I prevent the page from being shown in search results and tracked and goals recorded in Google Analytics? I know this is not supposed to be the case so there must be a bug somewhere. I am using the ‘Site Kit by Google’ plugin to add all the Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics tracking codes to the site.

I have limited experience with Google Analytics but from what I’ve seen, the noindex tag should not impact the analytic tracking. As it is for your site, I’d suspect it’s due to the way the analytics tracking setup or the report you’re using.

As Yoast SEO doesn’t handle Google Analytics, the best advice we can offer is to ask the author or support team that handles the tracking setup or to contact Google support here: https://support.google.com/analytics/

    Thanks for understanding!

I’m having this exact same issue and had a conversation with Yoast Premium support about it. Different people kept responding to my ticket every time I replied, which didn’t help.

Anyway, they ultimately passed the buck, taking the attitude that their plugin does what it’s supposed to do–namely, allow us to set individual pages to noindex–and if that thwarts Google Analytics goal tracking, then we need to take that up with Google.

I’m not optimistic about attracting the attention of a real human at Google on this, but maybe someone here has a suggestion. And of course any further information about this annoying issue would be helpful. I’ve found how-to articles on goal tracking of form thank-you pages set to no-index, which suggests this worked once upon a time, so this malfunction must be a new thing.
