• I’d like to re-install WP without losing the work we’ve done. Hoping that it might help with unexplained problems we’re having.

We’re using WordPress at https://www.artsedga.org and I noticed that the WordPress admin bar is missing even when I am logged into the Dashboard. (I have the NoScript Firefox add-on installed and can see that the various WP scripts are not running, w.com, wp.com, wordpress.com, gravatar.com usually show as sources of running scripts.)

One of the problems with the site is drop-down-menus not working and I think that that has to do with a script from wp.com. (The site owner thinks that some content has disappeared since we worked on the site quite sometime ago.) The site is hosted at Bluehost and BH support was absolutely no help, but other sites hosted at the same server are running fine and scripts show up as running.

I’m thinking that re-installing WordPress might help and I’m wondering how best to reinstall WP without losing the work and content we’ve done.

  • Before you do that, you might want to run it through a security check to ensure you haven’t been hacked.

You might also want to take some other steps to rule out other issues:

    1) Temporarily deactivate plugins to rule out a plugin issue.
    2) Temporarily switch to the default theme to rule out a theme related issue.

If you do want to re-install, you can follow the same steps as a manual upgrade:
