    Guten Abend!

I guess this should be simple. Regarding SEPA direct debit payment, sometimes customers don’t know the BIC/SWIFT for their account right away and have to look for it. Having that field being mandatory during check-out slows down the process and can be a little annoying for them, specially considering that the BIC/SWIFT can be easyly obtained from the IBAN.

I would like to make that field non-mandatory just to smooth a little the payment process. Can it easily be done?

    Thank you!

    Hi there,

no, that will not work as the BIC is required to generate the SEPA XML files and the BIC is not easily to be retrieved (e.g. by the IBAN). One could use an API like openiban.com but that would require some extra work and may lead to many requests needing to be sent during checkout validation.

    Cheers

    Hi!

I understand and share your point from the technical perspective. However I must disagree from the customer experience (and conversion) point of view, especially considering it is a manual process where I can change the info for the mandate (IBAN and BIC/SWIFT) from the order backend.

Actually, I already used germanized for one real payment where the payer did not know the BIC (which was a trouble for her)… but luckyly enough, I knew the payer, was in touch with her (something that would not happen with a new, unknown customer) and I could easyly find it out from the IBAN (there are plenty of tools online) and provide it later myself in the backend. The payment was successful and the payer suffer one less “pain” (using the terminology… or literally).

But again, I understand that you don’t want to leave that possible “gap” in the mandate generation in order to fully comply with the requirements.

    Thanks anyway!
