I have a problem with non virtual Digital Downloads, when i update the order to completed, on the customer account end the order changes from pending to completed, but the download does not appear in their available downloads, If i check the backend order the link to the download is not showing, if i add the link manually on the order it will then appear in the customers downloads.

If the same download is changed to virtual and then purchased everything works correctly, and the download appears automatically in the customers account.

How do i get this to work correctly on no virtual downloads ?

    Hi @stuarto ,

I see that you’re having trouble with non-virtual digital downloads not appearing for customers even after you’ve marked the order as completed. It definitely sounds like a settings issue.

First, make sure that the product is set up right. For digital downloads, apart from being virtual, they also need to be marked as downloadable. This is what triggers the system to list the download in the customer’s account.

    Here’s a quick checklist:

    1. Edit the product in WooCommerce.
    2. Go to the Product Data section.
    3. Make sure the Downloadable checkbox is ticked.
    4. Enter the File URL – the link to the digital file customers should receive.
    5. Save your changes.

Do this for one affected product and then test to see if, after purchase, the download shows up for the customer as expected.

Here’s our Digital/Downloadable Product Guide you might want to check out: https://woocommerce.com/document/digital-downloadable-product-handling/

If this doesn’t fix it or if you’ve already tried these steps, it would be great if you could provide some additional details about your product settings or any error messages you see. You can use snipboard.io?to take a screenshot. This will generate a link that can be pasted directly into your response here.

Looking forward to getting this sorted out.

Hi, Thanks for your quick response,

I think i am beginning to work out what the problem is.

Please can you confirm for the download url, what information can be changed on the product download url for the previously purchased downloads to still recognise the download.

    1. can the file name be changed ?
    2. Can the file path be changed ?

I can nopt find these questions specifically answered anywhere in the help.

I need to know this as the download file is moved from a pre production server (file path) to a production server (different file path) and the file name is changed to reflect its in production status.

    Many thanks

    Regards

    Stuart

    Hi @stuarto ,

I’m glad to hear you’re making progress. Regarding the download URL for previously purchased downloads. The answer to this can be found on this part of the guide specifically, under “What happens if I edit a downloadable product’s files after customers have purchased it?”.

Please can you confirm for the download url, what information can be changed on the product download url for the previously purchased downloads to still recognise the download.

    1. can the file name be changed ?
    2. Can the file path be changed ?

When you update an existing downloadable product’s files by changing the name or file URL, previous customers will still have access to their purchased downloads with these updates, and their download limits and expiry dates won’t be affected by these changes.

However, adding a completely new download file to a product will not grant access to past purchasers, only to new ones.

Just in case you’re looking to give continuous access to updates or additional files after purchase, consider using a subscription or membership model to manage access rights.

    Hope this helps!
