Non-working WP due to changed UTF

  • Unfortunatley I changed the UTF in WordPress-options accidentaly from 8 to 7 and now WordPress is unusable by me. All text is wrong and changed to random characters it seems.

    Can this be undone? Any php-file to edit?

  • Just change it back where you did the first modification: Options > Reading.

    No changes seems to be allowed. Regardless how much I change it keeps going back to 7. I sure must have missed something importand (and yes the files have the correct rights).

    So yet again…are there any way to edit the file(s) manually?

    Do you have access to phpMyAdmin or something similar to edit your database? Because that’s where the value is that you need to change.

    This tutorial (https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/site-url/) will get you to the right table (_options), but you’ll be looking for a different “Option_Name”. Hopefully that will get your there though.
