When I try to reply to comments I get the error, nonce verification failed

    https://app.screencast.com/F2ATAqeOX8Hs3

I see lots of posts with this error but I can’t see any fixes.

If I disable cloudflare the problems goes away so I think its something to do with jetpack and cloudflare.

I have cache everything enabled for posts in cloudflare so i suspect it is some issue with caching.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Hi @leftofcentre

While the “nonce verification failed” error can occur due to various reasons, including conflicts between plugins, themes, or caching mechanisms, your observation about Jetpack and Cloudflare is worth exploring. Here are a few suggestions to help you troubleshoot the issue further:

    1. Clear Cloudflare Cache: Clear the cache within your Cloudflare settings to ensure that any cached nonce values are refreshed. This can help rule out any potential conflicts caused by outdated cached data.
    2. Cloudflare Firewall Rules: Review your Cloudflare firewall rules, specifically any rules related to Jetpack or WordPress. It’s possible that certain security settings in Cloudflare are interfering with the nonce verification process. Consider adjusting the firewall rules accordingly or temporarily disabling them for testing purposes.
    3. Jetpack and Cloudflare Settings: Check if Jetpack and Cloudflare have any conflicting features or settings enabled. For example, both Jetpack and Cloudflare have features related to caching or security that could lead to conflicts. Disable or adjust these features one at a time to identify any potential conflicts.
    4. Plugin/Theme Conflicts: Temporarily disable all plugins except Jetpack and switch to a default WordPress theme (like Twenty Twenty-One). Then, check if the “nonce verification failed” error still occurs. If the error disappears, gradually reactivate your plugins and switch back to your original theme, one at a time, until the conflict is identified.

    Hello @leftofcentre

It’s been one week since this topic was last updated. I’m going to mark this thread as solved. If you have any further questions or need more help, you’re welcome to open another thread here. Cheers!

This has been happening to me for a while as well, and happened again just now.

Please don’t close these topics without fixing the problem, else more and more of them will keep being created and marked as “solved” when they’re not.

In case it gives a hint on what’s failing, posting comments and replies works fine when you’re logged out of the site’s account and just use a regular WordPress account or even no accounts at all, just entering an email and name to show.

@leftofcentre Are you still encountering the issue?

@iceknight Do you use Cloudflare? It makes sense that it would work when you’re leaving an anonymous comment (and by anonymous, I mean non-member). What do you mean when you say “regular WordPress account”? How does that differ from the “site’s account” you mentioned?
