• It’s taken me all day to fix the problems posed by this upgrade on my six sites. The docs and FAQs are totally unhelpful. The change from being able to simply use [your-name] [your-email] in the mail From field is a pain. I have used the work around by using [your-name] <[your-email]> in Additional Headers, so at least I can reply. But having messages arrive From Me, and to Me is totally confusing.

This was a great plugin that was always ‘set and forget’. But now, it’s confusing, a pain, and needlessly cumbersome.

I understand the spam implications, but I am not sure this illogical upgrade is the best answer.

I’ll hang in with CF7, simply because I have been so happy, for so long. But this is not an upgrade made to keep loyal uses happy.

• @keeperbay that’s good to hear you have found something that works for you and your clients.

Kind regards,
David

So annoying, I updated all my forms as recommended:

FROM field has [your-name] <[email protected]>
ADDITIONAL HEADERS: Reply-To: [your-email]

I also have a new error message in the subject field, even when it’s correct, and the notifications won’t go away. Looking for an alternative, I’m between Ninja Forms and Gravity Forms, it’s sad because I loved and recommended CF7 to everyone…

@mairag, try adding a * and the words required to the Subject part in the Form Tab like this:

Subject (required)
[text* your-subject]

or in the Mail Tab just add some words to the Subject box like this

Subject: Contact from Website: [your subject]

I have tried everything suggested, including deleting cf7 and re-installing and I still get the “this field has syntax errors” message under “Mail: From”. I have possibly lost potential business as the contact form cannot be sent. This is very upsetting and has taken days of frustrating attempts and still nothing works.

Is there another form out there that I can transfer my form settings to? I’d really not want to start from scratch as my forms are fairly lengthy.

This is incredibly disheartening

Frankthebunny,
I don’t think there is anything that will transfer the information.

Click the link below and look at the screenshot. Make the changes indicated on the screenshot and that will give you a fix until you can find something that will work for you.

@frankthebunny,
If you need further assistance click on my profile name (keeperbay) next to my profile image. That will take you to my website. Use the contact form on my website to contact me and I will either walk you through it step by step or I will do it for you.

I can also help you find a new and better plugin to use, but until we find you something you like I can get this one up and running for you.

Hi I’ve got quite a lot of sites I need to changes so can you please clarify so I can get it right the first time.
Do you advise upgrading the plugin? I’ve got a client who suddenly isn’t receiving her emails and her plugin isn’t upgraded so the problem is not due to the upgrade but I understand that this change is just so that the emails don’t go into spam so it’s probably due to that. Luckily I’ve got ‘Flamingo’ installed on all sites as this records all messages on the wordpress dashboard.

So is this correct?
If I’m working on a website like https://www.mrbobsled.com for Mr Bobsled

I must change the From: [your-name] <[your-email]> to From: Mr Bobsled <[email protected]> or [your-name] <[email protected]>

To: [email protected]
From: Mr Bobsled <[email protected]>
Subject: Re : [your-subject]
Additional Headers: Reply-To: [your-email]

It is mentioned that by adding the Reply-To: [your-email] in ADDITIONAL HEADERS means that you can reply to the sender by hitting the Reply button in your email client.

I’ve tested this and it doesn’t work in gmail. Maybe it works in outlook? What do you think I’m doing wrong. Through experience I know that most of my clients will reply to the email thinking that it will go to the clients email and now it won’t. This is a big problem I think, is there anyway around this?

Also some people prefer the contact form messages to go to a different email. Is it ok to make the
To: [email protected]
From: Mr Bobsled <[email protected]>

Thank you.

I just wanted to thank “barnez” for your posts. After weeks of trying to find a solution as to why our Quick Link Connect wasn’t working, the “wordpress@your-domain” (with your domain being filled in” in the from field and Re: for the subject field worked!!! What a relief!! Thank you Barnez for taking time to write in the forum.

@trishalee even with the validation errors CF7 would have still worked, so you should not have lost any enquiries.

@elisedietrich

You can use this in the From: [your-name] <[email protected]>

This way it will show the Name of the person sending you the enquiry.

@davidian
It is important to point out that only some sites are working with the CF7 validation errors, others do not (and some don’t work even after the validation errors are corrected)

For example I was able to receive emails with the error from my site, but many of my clients could not.
I was able to correct the error on my site, but several of my clients sites needed the plugin pulled and a better plugin installed.

Please stop telling people everything works even with the errors, that is simply not true. Some people are lucky others are not.

@davidian Thanks, that worked.

@keeperbay the plugin WILL work with the validation errors (they are only warnings)!

If your clients were having problems, it is likely another plugin is conflicting with CF7.

It is great you have found another plugin that works for you and your clients. If you no longer require assistance with CF7 then perhaps it would be best if you untick the “Notify me of follow-up posts via email” and stop following the threads.

I would just like to say thank you to the plugin developers who provide a free service & is recommending this change. I know it’s a pain especially when we have lots of sites to change but they are trying to help us deal with the problem caused by all the spam filters. My one website the mails stopped coming through and I hadn’t even upgraded the plugin so it’s got nothing to do with that. Now I’ve made the suggested change (without upgrading the plugin), it’s working ok. Hopefully all is ok when I upgrade the plugin

Another issue with CF7 and qtranslate-x.

Some pages I run with the multi language plugin qtranslate-x. Until now both plugins were working well in each language version.
After updating CF7 it won′t switch the form language, means only the WP installed language version is shown on all versions.

Btw., good support you are giving here @davinian ! Had these days to find solutions and I found the same solutions to be effective.
