• I’ve added 35 links to EAL and it’s been working great.

However now i can’t seem to add any more.

Is that the limit for the free version?

Now i have another problem: instead of going to the target site, links are going to the address of the cloaked link ie instead of going to affiliateproduct.com/1234 links are going to mysite/go/1234.

Having just swapped over 35 links to now find they don’t work is pretty alarming.

I think i will have to look at another solution.

    Hi there,

There is no limit to the number of links you can create in the free plugin.

Links are also supposed to go to mysite/go/1234 and from there redirect to your target site. So what’s happening exactly? You get a blank screen there?

If so, check with your webhost if there are any errors in the PHP error log.

These things usually happen because of compatibility problems.

Try disabling all other plugins for a second and see if it works then.
If not, try switching to a default theme (like Twenty Seventeen) and check again.

    Kind regards,
    Brecht

Ok, thanks Brecht. Good that there’s no limit to the number of links you can create.

Links are going to mysite/go/1234 but stopping there. They are not going on to the merchant’s site. Because i don’t have my WordPress site live, but am just using it to store affiliate links at present, people can’t even click a link on my site to go to the merchant.

I have installed a couple more plugins since EAL, so i will investigate further and will post again when i find out more.

I’ve done all the things you’ve suggested.

I’ve written to my webhost about php errors and am waiting to hear back.

I disabled all the plugins that i installed after EAL to see if that made a difference – it didn’t.

Then i installed 2017 and miraculously all my links worked again. How is this? How can themes interfere with the operation of the plugin?

In any case, thanks for your help.

This issue has alerted me to the fact i have to check that the theme is compatible with EAL. Is there any way to do this besides activating it and seeing?

My webhost told me there were no php errors (and has told me how i can find the relevant file in future).

No errors? That’s strange. Could you try enabling WP_DEBUG in your wp-config.php file and see if you get anything more than a white screen then?

I’m afraid you can’t really test if there are theme issues without just trying. In theory, any theme should work.

Given changing the theme to 2017 fixed the problem, is there any advantage to setting up WP_DEBUG?

If we know the actual error we might be able to figure out the problem with the other theme, if that’s the one you’d like to use.
