• I had to un-install all the plugins on our website when we did the new update but now it won’t let me reinstall any of them. I keep getting the same error message saying it could not create the directory. I’m fairly new at this and could use some help!

  • No problem, this is good question.

Since I can not see the admin panel of your account. I am going have to assume that you can not un-install the plugin from your admin panel.

If that is the case, you can manually un-install the plugin via cpanel file editor or an ftp client filezilla.

Here’s video to show you the steps

    The steps to take:

    1. Test once again check to make sure the plugin can not be deleted from the WP dashboard (admin) Try both methods

    2. Make you have an FTP client setup on your web server… or login with cpanel.

    3. If you have FTP and you know the login download and install filezilla

    4. Go to your wp-content/plugin folder and delete your plugin

Thank you for your answer but I think you may have misunderstood the question. I currently have no plug-ins and need install new ones but when I try it tells me it can’t create the directory. The error message looks like this: /home/content/l/o/r/lorena27/html/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/

This sort of error can be to do with permissions on the directory (WordPress has to be allowed to write to it). If it’s not a permissions issue you could try asking your host about the file ownership (something along the lines of whether the WordPress install belongs to the ftp account or Apache).

I had quite a lot of trouble with this at one stage and found it hard to get my head around at first but my host helped and I eventually got it sorted. I hope this points you in the right direction at least and you manage to figure it out!

Take a look at this: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_File_Permissions
