I was able to send a test email and a test newsletter.
Then the SSL certificate was added to my site.
Now I am receiving errors when I try to send both from the website and my gmail account.

    HI kjoamo,

Do you have a copy of the error message that you could provide. We run all of our sites with SSL and have not seen any issues.

Sure – here’s the weird thing. When I click the option to send through my website and do not click the Go Daddy box (since I am using the Go Daddy hosting), the test email comes through just fine. The first test newsletter came through fine as well. Then I go to send out my first newsletter to subscribers and it sends (no error message), but none are received. So, I click the Go Daddy Box and try to send a test email and this is the error message I get:

    SMTP Debug Info

Port 465 seems to be blocked. Gmail may have trouble

Port 587 seems to be blocked.

    550 authentication.
SMTP Error: The following recipients failed: [email protected]

Then if I change and try to send through gmail, this is the error message I get:

    SMTP Debug Info

Port 465 seems to be blocked. Gmail may have trouble

Port 587 seems to be blocked.
    SMTP connect() failed.
SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: Connection refused (111)SMTP connect() failed.

The only changes I made after sending the first test email and test newsletter was Go Daddy added the SSL certificate.

It looks like Go Daddy may have blocked the ports need from. They are very strict when it comes to sending email. Our pro version has support for sending through third parties which would remove Go Daddy from the loop. I have also seen some people have some success with the various SMTP plug-ins out there, but we don’t support those. Your mileage may vary.

I was having a problem with this until I installed WP-Mail-SMTP.

This is a quick update since this thread is still open.
Don’t use SMTP plugins with GoDaddy hosted websites.
YOU CANNOT SEND EMAIL THROUGH ANY SMTP PORT FROM A GODADDY HOSTED WEBSITE.

GoDaddy has ports 25, 465 & 587 blocked and will not open them. You must send admin messages and form email directly to a GoDaddy hosted email account or forwarder.

More details and a SOLUTION in this thread:

@awtx. Thanks for the info. Now all the Go Daddy issues people have experienced make more sense.

Another option would be to use our Pro version and send through 3rd party like Mandrill using their API. https://sendpress.com/blog/7635/sendpress-mandrill-quick-start-guide/

I was having the same problem and found the solution. The answer is the cPanel MX Entry setting.

By default it is set to Local Mail Exchanger in which case the web server tries to handle email that it believes are for it (i.e. email that originates from the same domain as the website).

To solve the problem, login to cPanel and change MX Entry to Remote Mail Exchanger in which case the web server will let the MX Records in your DNS to route the email.

Once you do this, there is no need for any WordPress SMTP plugin at all.
