• How come using basic Kubrick on wordpress.com I can upload my own custom image header with no problem, but not on my own domain with this same Kubrick template I do not have this option. A www.ads-software.com volunteer just installed this for me yesterday on my own domain. What should I do?

  • You just need to name your image kubrickheader.jpg and put it in your images folder on the server. Of course, the image should be a similar, if not exact, size. What went worng?

    I tried changing and uploading my header’s name to kubrickheader.jpg and I uploaded it but I still get only the text header.

    I just switched over to https://www.000webhost.com as my webhost and they say to upload all graphics:
    .

    You must upload Your files to /public_html/ folder. Do not forget that public_html folder must contain file called index.html or index.php

    They don’t mention any specific image folder, as you mentioned in your reply.

    What confuses me is when I had my blog on a subdomain at https://www.www.ads-software.com, with Kubrick(and several other templates I sampled), under My Dashboard, I click on the DESIGN option and I get the following suboptions:
    * Themes
    * Widgets
    * Extras
    * Custom Image Header
    * Color Header
    * Edit CSS

    The “Custom Image Header” is NOT an option with Kubrick(or the basic WordPress Template) that came when I had a www.ads-software.com volunteer install WordPress on my own domain. Thus, I haven’t a clue on how to get my custom Image Header installed.

    I also had no trouble uploading other images on my wordpress.com subdomain, but using the same upload images option on my own domain, it rejects them with some error messages.

    What am I doing wrong?

    First, I have my own server space, never used the WordPress.com, so I can’t answer that.

    You loaded wordpress to your server, right?
    It has a theme folder. Inside is a default folder for the kubrick theme.
    In that folder is an images folder that has a bunch of .jpg images, seven that I count. Do you see kubrickheader.jpg? Can you load your own pic there?

    I have made a tutorial on how to change the kubrick header, to a custom one of your choice. Have a look here at aetas.dk

    That worked. Thanks Phil-ip for the post – I’ll check your tutorial.

    Now that the custom image header is installed, how do I install other images for my blog pages?

    Everytime I’m in the “write post” section and go the “add media” options and click on the “add an image” icon, I then proceed to try and upload an image out of my hard drive. It then goes into “crunching” mode and I always wind up with the following error message:
    Unable to create directory

    /home/a7775612/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2008/05. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    What am I doing wrong?

    Ok, great, one problem down, one point for me.

    I just tried that add media, and no luck for me either. Why not just load the images the way you load themes, FTP them to the /images/ folder and link from there? It never occurred to me to even try that media link before, I always upload manually.

    Now another problem. I took your advice and uploaded an image and tried to insert it into a post. The only way I could figure how to do that was to click the little green icon(that says insert/edit image when you run your cursor over it)
    It then brings up a little box that asks for a Image URL and I did that the best I can, based on what I see on my host server:

    Directory Tree: root /public_html /wp-content /themes /default /images

    Using this guide, I did the following:
    https://www.mydomain.com/root/public_html/wp-content/themes/default/images/myimage.jpg

    Did I do something wrong?

    Thanks again for your help.

    the path I use turns out to just;

    https://www.mydomainname.com/images/pic.jpg

    When I look at the the folder I FTP to, I see images,wp-admin,wp-content folders among others, and all the wp-xxx.php files.
    This is not the image folder inside the themes, to me that seemed too risky. I want all my images where I can easily track them for multiple sites.
    Let me know if this helps.
