• Update: I personally like the new editor, which offers a more focused, streamlined way to write. Galleries and formatting leave a bit to be desired, but from a writing perspective, it’s great.

HTML blocks still need a lot of work. They’re very buggy and inconsistent with what they preview and you’re usually better off deleting and remaking them if you have to edit them. Live preview doesn’t typically show them, so you’re often stuck having to publish and hope it looks good.

Beyond that and some other minor issues, it’s definitely a huge improvement from the release in December.

I really wanted to like Gutenberg, but it was such a mistake to push this out so early. This could use another year or two of polishing before being shoved down everyone’s throat. I feel like this is a step back for WordPress. Even the classic editor can’t save this release.

You want feedback, but most site owners don’t have the time to do a write-up on GH with all the testing/fixing they’ve done, complete with a way to replicate issues. Devs and hosting providers are busy putting out fires from a release that just wasn’t ready for the public. Not sure why it was necessary to add this to core so soon.

Hi @ltbennight, thanks for providing your feedback. Have you continued to use Gutenberg with the recent releases? There has been a lot of testing and updates, so I’m curious if your experience has improved at all.

After the initial release and a couple of months for things to settle, things were fine. I definitely still think it was a little rushed. I personally don’t have a problem with it, but unfortunately can’t say the same for most of my clients who still prefer the simplicity of the classic editor. I think having to waste money on fixing things that they shouldn’t have had to deal with left a bad taste in their mouth, and unfortunately most hosts kind of forced the update on everyone. (Or it went through anyway, despite the fact that updates were disabled.)

I’ll my rating to reflect a more current view of it, but am still not at all pleased with how the release went. There are still so many themes and plugins that haven’t accounted for Gutenberg, so I still spend an awful lot of time testing. I imagine it’s less of an editor issue and more of an issue with devs just needing to make the appropriate changes, but that’s another issue.
