Hi – I installed this plugin and, as a test, I blocked the country I am in located in from the site’s frontend. The plugin works correctly with all browsers on Windows desktop computers and all iOS and Android devices except when using the Chrome Browser on Android. It is still able to get into the site using Chrome on an Android device. Has anyone experienced this same issue?

This was also addressed in https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/problem-with-ip-blocking/

If you don’t see your own IP address in the webserver logfiles either your request was cached somewhere and never reached the webserver or the request was proxied I think.

Thank you Pascal, yes, sorry, I posted the issue in the general WordPress forum as well.

What you suggested makes sense about cahcing or proxy, but it shouldn’t e happening on my Nokia phone. It is not using any special services and the site properly blocks from all other browsers on the phone. So I am really not sure why the problem exists. I will try to get a different Android device if I can and test it with Chrome on another device.

I even waited a few days and tested it again with my Nokia 6 thinking that it could be a caching issue as you mentioned, but the site still loads even the country is blocked.

By the way, I loaded those GeoIP.dat files onto my server that the plug-in asks you to download, unzip, and upload to /wp-content/uploads. Do these files contain the IP address blocks for every country in the world and do they need to be updated once every 6-12 months?

    Hi,

The GeoIP databases are updated monthly. So if you want to stay up to date you should update them monthly ?? In one of the next versions the new GeoIP database format will be introduced however as the GeoIP Legacy database only gets updated once more in April.

If you send me the site via email or publish it here and you have not blocked The Netherlands I can test it on Android 8 / Chrome with a Samsung device.

Thank you Pascal. Probably updating once every 3 months is enough. But when you change to the new database format this means I will not be able to update the site anymore after April?

I am sorry, but I don’t know your email address. I just added your plugin to a test site we have and I blocked Netherlands on the front end of the site so you should not be able to get in. If you can get in with Android 8 and Chrome then that is the problem I am having. The site should be blocked, but it is not and can still be accessed.

How can I send you the link to the website to you without publishing it here please?

    Thank you…

Closing this as tested with your URL I could not reproduce with Chrome on Android.
