• Doesn’t work if you use Elementor. Private pages are visible to all users.

Plugin has not been updated in 3 months and dev has not responded to support requests on Github or www.ads-software.com support forum in over a month. Plugin seems abandoned.

    Hi,

the plugin is still maintained but sometimes there are more important things in life, and family is one of them, than adding support for a third-party plugin. I wasn’t able to reproduce the issue in the past, see https://github.com/GM-Alex/user-access-manager/issues/213 and so I wasn’t now without more information.

Of course life comes before plugins, but reviews are to help other users know whether there are known issues, to help them make informed decisions, troubleshoot, and save time. This plugin has issues unfortunately.

Sure this is an issue for you, but we are talking about a third-party plugin which is not supported(?) and if you argue that are reviews for other users a rating of maybe three stars would be more realistic/fair, because the plugin works without any known issues for a default WordPress instance. And as I wrote above without more information I can’t do anything. Maybe the problem is related to Elementor or other plugins used in combination and not to UAM… But anyway I’m used to “binary” user ratings, which eating up my motivation to help others for free so I put my effort into other things.

Please don’t get me wrong it’s not only you but I think you would feel the same if you put like valued 1000 to 2000 hours in a free plugin where you don’t get much back (thanks to all which gave something back), then your family needs you attention for serious reasons and you receive a one star rating because a third party plugin isn’t compatible. And in addition you already noticed long before that you can’t do anything without more information. I think you agree that sucks a lot.

Yes I know, it sucks when hard work receives criticism. But you can’t take this personally. The rating is for a piece of software you made, not for you as a developer.

I gave it 1 star for two reasons:

    1. It doesn’t work with the most popular free page builder plugin. I’ve seen other people commenting that it also didn’t work with Visual Composer.

    2. Posts asking for help on the Github page AND the plugin support forum went unanswered for over a month. (You don’t have time to acknowledge support requests, but you’ve got time to argue back against a 1 star rating within 24 hours so that doesn’t make me feel more sympathetic.) This means it’s unsupported and that’s helpful to know when deciding what plugin to install on a site.

The plugin would deserve 3 stars if you were actively working on bug reports and answering support requests, or if it had no support but also didn’t have gamebreaking compatibility issues with other really commonly used plugins.

If you’ve shelved the project because you don’t have time for it – it’s a free plugin, you’re not obliged to keep supporting it – then you have to accept that people will warn other users about problems it has. If you fix the bug I’ll happily change the rating.

I don’t take it personal but still in my opinion 1 star out of 5 means the plugin doesn’t work and works, but it’s obviously not compatible with Elementor which doesn’t justifies the the rating, sorry. But anyway as I wrote above without more information I can’t fix it because for me it worked just fine with Elementor, see github. And that’s also the reason why I’m reacting on the rating and not on github because everything was said, more information is required… In addition people mostly rate plugins they don’t like mostly totally ridiculous (“one star because I must give at least one”) instead of give something back if they like it and yes that grind my gears.

I’ve been using this plugin in production for almost 10 years now. It rocks. Thanks for keeping it up!
