    Howdy Sarah,
I just did a fresh install of WP 3.8.1 and downloaded/installed the plugin via the “Add New” plugin page. I have been unable to reproduce the problem you described using PHP versions 5.2 and 5.4.

If you are able, can you please try the following for me:
    1) Set define( 'WP_DEBUG', true ) in wp-config.php and let me know if there are any errors.
    2) Disable your other plugins and see if the error persists.
    3) Set your theme to Twenty-Thirteen and see if the error persists.

Otherwise, could you please let me know what browser you are using and any details of your server that you’re willing to provide (MySQL version, PHP version, etc).

    Thanks!

    Howdy Sarah,
I’m going to go ahead and close this since I’m hoping that the combination of 3.9 and my latest update has solved your issue. If it still persists feel free to open another request.

I haven’t been able to get this to work on any live or local test sites (vanilla, no plugins, default theme), even with the updates. So strange! I know it works for other people so I have no idea what I’m doing wrong, after testing in multiple environments. I don’t have any new info to add, so I didn’t open another support thread. But I hope to someday track down my error, as we are a big brewing household and I’d love to write about this plugin to help other home brewers discover an easy way to share their recipes.

Hmm… I was helping someone that was having a problem on GitHub and it turned out that the BeerXML file they were using had the wrong encoding. You can check out the thread here: https://github.com/dbspringer/beerxml-plugin/issues/2

If you post your BeerXML file somewhere I can take a look. In the mean time, let me know if this file works: https://www.fivebladesbrewing.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/sgian.xml

Yes, your file works perfectly. So it must be my file, although the encoding matches yours: encoding=”ISO-8859-1″

    Here it is: https://mariongooding.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Artisan-Belgian-Sour-Blond.xml

That recipe was exported from Beersmith and the xml seems to have an error. I tried some recipes exported from BrewToad and they worked, ie this one: https://www.brewtoad.com/recipes/immigrant-lager.xml

So either there is an error with how BeerSmith exports its recipes or maybe it’s just a strange problem with the one I was using. I think we will just transfer recipes to BrewToad and maybe test a few other BeerSmith recipes to see how it goes. Thank you for your help! Looks like we’re good to go now. I will be writing an article about the plugin for the Tavern. ??

Woot! I actually use BeerSmith myself, so I’m hesitant to say it’s endemic to the program. I’ve used exports from both the Windows and Mac version, so I’m really curious as to why your was giving you trouble. Which version of BeerSmith do you use?

2.0.4 – might be an older version. I think the problem was just with that one recipe outputting with an error.
