If it worked the first time but not now, then I don’t think you’ve “scrapped” or “reinstalled” everything? Since you say you’ve scrapped everything anyway, consider actually starting from scratch, since that’s at least a state from which you know this “worked fine.”

Are there particular files I should edit/remove? It happens even after the plugin is deleted through the admin tool, and the subdir is gone when I check the plugins directory.

Nope. Like I said earlier, I suggest actually start over when you say you are starting over. If you actually “scrapped the installation” after having it work the first time, then you would be in the same state as the first time, when it worked.

    This means:

    1) Uninstall WordPress. Reinstall WordPress.
    2) Create a new WordPress.com app (API key/client ID, etc), and use it.

If it worked the first time, and you return your installation to the same state it was in the first time it worked, it will work again. If it does not work the second time then you have not actually “scrapped your installation” because it is not in the same state as it was in the first time you tried it.
