Not displaying article on main page

I’m trying to create new articles that will only appear int their designated categories (and not on the homepage as well). I can’t seem to find this option when writing the article; all new posts are automatically added to the main wordpress homepage, as well as listed under the category it’s been posted in. Is there a way to restrict it to being listed only in the category and not on the main page?
