Not easy to use
-
Negative points :
This plugin doesn’t read mp3 tags
There is no admin panel, you have to upload thes file via ftp
shortcode is complex
Design is awful
-
Taking points in turn:
– You are right it doesn’t, but will automatically read in your library titles and captions for you, and you can add title and caption on any track wherever it’s coming from (not quite true – you can’t caption link replacements if they’re outside the media library).
– Yes there is (see screenshots). No you don’t need to do any ftp.
– I’ve tried to keep shortcodes simple and make them useful, so for eg this will play a file in your media library called muppet.mp3
[mp3-jplayer tracks="muppet.mp3"]
Whereas this one will play everything in the library:
[mp3-jplayer tracks="FEED:LIB"]
And this will play everything in a site folder called say ‘album’ in ‘mymusic’:
[mp3-jplayer tracks="FEED:/mymusic/album"]
I can’t think of a better way at the mo, but i’m open to suggestions. There is a new version in the pipeline with playlist management for those who don’t want to use shortcodes so maybe stay tuned for that.
– You really could have decided that from the screenshots, there was no need to install it.
@simon I’ve spent the last three weeks purchasing and testing players from envato… I just wish I’d come across this sooner I would be a couple of $$$ better off.
Better quality – UX + than most I’d pay for. It pains to read reviews left like the above…
Cheers
There should be a test for .org new comers to gain access to plugins and being allowed to leave reviews, something like. How would you upload an audio using the WP Admin… failing that redirect them to wp.com, or read the manual. lol, really bugs me.
I’m not sure I follow, but if you have feedback regarding www.ads-software.com or WordPress core feel free to create a thread on the Requests and Feedback forum: https://www.ads-software.com/support/forum/requests-and-feedback#postform
I could have written that more clearly. I was just expressing my frustration with what I believe is an unjustified negative review left by Vinyl Roads. Who has demonstrated that they do not even understand the absolute basic administrative processes yet feels comfortable leaving such a comment and review.
I’ll remove my comments.
I was giving credit to the author, it’s a great plugin and its free!!!
Sorry Le Bear, but it’s my opinion.
I’m not a Newbie, this plugin didn’t feet my need and i found it not user friendly.
For me, short code is not user friendly.
Glad to see it’s a great plugin for you.
Sorry for the dev (simon.ward), i know it’s a hard work to create a plugin, but i wanted to be honest.
@le Bear, thanks for your support, it pains me too. I hope the player is doing what you need.
@vinyl roads, the thing is, it wasn’t truthful. It’s like you didn’t read the description. Reviews like yours are of no help to anyone, they mis-inform potential users, damage plugin ratings, and demotivate plugin authors. I’m not being funny but please, read this before you next publicy trash someone’s work.
Ok, i’ve changed my review 1 stars to 3 stars.
Thank you Vinyl Roads for taking the time to reconsider, that was really good of you, and it’s much appreciated. All the best. Simon.
Hey Vinyl. Respect for getting back into the post and backing your opinion.
I love exploring the code, often finding additional functionality not specified in the docs or front end admin.
Take a moment, see what’s going on, hell, maybe do some actual development.
If you can contribute to making the plugin better for all you might get direct support from the developer to help you diagnose the problem…
Installing plugins and using shortcodes is not something you can grade with level. It’s not web design, it’s not web development.
If you do not understand the mechanics, then how can you sabotage someone’s work they have released for other to develop further, modify or as in most cases save 40+ hours of development & testing with a few clicks.
That’s my view and a little insight to why I get frustrated and feel it necessary for the reviewer to be aware and re assure the developer his contribution to the open source community is appreciated. I’d be so &&&&&& off lol =)
