    Hello Yoast SEO,

We’re managing a website for one of our customers. On that website I see a URL in the post-sitemap.xml that doesn’t exist on the website itself. I can’t figure out how to remove the post from the sitemap. I disabled and re-enabled the sitemap functionality, tried caching, did my best. But with no result.

I’d like to share the URL of this website, but not in the public community. How can we go further?

    Kind regards

    Hello Viewonit,

Thanks for reaching out about your sitemap.

If I understand correctly, there is a URL in the post sitemap that is not on the website.

    1. Is the URL on the same domain name as the main website?
    2. Are you running the latest version of Yoast SEO?
    3. When you visit the URL, does it load or throw a 404 error?

I’ll recommend doing a Yoast SEO indexables reset to make sure that we have stored the correct data in the database tables; you can find the steps here – https://yoast.com/help/how-to-reset-yoast-indexables/

    Hi Maybellyne,

Thanks for your response. I didn’t see your response, but I’d like to re-open the topic.

The URL is indeed on the same domain as the main website. I’m running the latest version of Yoast SEO. And if I visit the URL that is wrongly in the sitemap, it shows a 404 error. I’ve already reset the indexables tables and migrations, but that didn’t solve the issue.

If there is a way to share the website URL to you privately, it would be nice. Maybe you can take a look to troubleshoot then.

Looking forward to your response, thanks!

    Kind regards.

    Hello @viewonit

Unfortunately, we don’t provide private/personal support in the WP Forum. If the URL throws a 404 error, with time, it should be dropped. You may also consider re-submitting the sitemap in the Google Search Console

    Hello Maybellyne,

Thanks for your response. I understand that private support is not included, but I think this could be a bug in the software.

Re-submitting the sitemap in the Google Search Console wouldn’t work I guess, because the URL is wrongly available in the Yoast SEO generated sitemap. The URL is gone for several years already, so I don’t think it would be dropped sooner or later too.

Because of this maybe you could take a quick look at the site/URL?

    Kind regards

Can you provide the non-existing URL so we can take a look?

    Hello Maybellyne,

I’d really like to share the non-existing URL. But I don’t want to share it on this topic. I’d really want to know a way to share it privately. Maybe I can send it by e-mail to a generic support e-mail address of Yoast SEO?

    Kind regards
