I am using Google Drive as a remote storage to backup our large website (100+ GB). I have scheduled 2 types of backups:

    • Full backup – daily
    • DB backup – twice a day

Backup uploading to Google Drive is not working all the time for the full backup, however, it is always working for the DB only backup. UpdraftPlus uploads the daily full backup to Google Drive only 3 times during last 2 weeks, whereas it should be 14 times.

Please note I have set Split Archives option to 50 MB to overcome the timeout issue.

Last log file is available here for review.

Furthermore, I can see the non-uploaded archives in the updraft folder taking 100s of GB space. Is it possible to clean up these archives by uploading to Google Drive?

    Hi,

From the log, it appears that the backup is not able to complete processing the Uploads.
As such, the backup does not reach the upload stage.

I would recommend asking your host if it is possible to increase the PHP maximum execution time (and anything else that controls the maximum execution/script timeout time) to at least 300 seconds (600 if possible) if it is lower than this.

If you are able to increase the timeout, I would recommend increasing the split archives option to 200MB.

    Hi,

PHP maximum execution time is set to 300. This value is fixed and can’t be changed. Split archives were set to 200 mb in the past, but after several failure attempts to uploading the backup to Google Drive, I reduced it to 50 mb.

    Hi,

    Apologies for the delay.

Please could you update to the latest version of UpdraftPlus?

Could you also reschedule the file backups to a quiet time of day? The log shows overlapping resumptions, which indicates a lack of resources at the time of backup. A quieter time of day on the site will hopefully free up some resources.

Could you also check through your Uploads directory, and see if any of the directories being backed up contain only logs or other files that are not required in the backup?
These can then be added to the Uploads ‘exclude these’ list, to reduce the size of the backup.
