• So, I started to populate my store in November, and with the help of lots of SEO and some Google shopping listings, started getting orders in very early January, at the rate of about one a day….I’m hoping for more, but it’s been steady up until 3/23. That was (coincidentally) the day that I hired a consultant from the Far East to help me optimize the site for better speed.

As far as I’m aware, he only did the following:
    1. Optimized some images
    2. Installed the Speed Booster Pack plugin
    3. Tweaked settings for WP Super Cache plugin, which I’d installed a week or so earlier.

As far as I know, the site is working, I’ve done a few tests with credit cards and paypal and a BUNCH of tests with “Check payment” enabled, including friends who had never visited the site before. No one got any errors and I received the orders. I’m just worried/concerned and was wondering how to might check to see if any visitors were unable to get through the checkout process for some reason. I’m losing money!! Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but I just can’t believe how suddenly the orders dried up, even though I’m paying Google for the same number of shopping clicks every day and my prices are very competitive. Thanks.

When I fill in my billing info (using the Avada theme) I proceed to the next screen, where the “ship to a different address?” option is displayed, with the box unchecked and all of the shipping address fields *visible*, with no values in the fields. If I leave the box unchecked and continue to the checkout page, there is no shipping value displayed. Instead, it says “Shipping costs will be calculated once you have provided your address”. Even if I go back and enter shipping info, I still only get the message. The only way to get shipping costs to show is to go back to the cart page and enter state and postal code. Then the shipping costs will populate. This is only happening on safari of my phone. Google browser on phone works fine. On desktop browsers and mobile Google app, the shipping address fields aren’t even visbile unless you click “ship to a different address.”

Just tried it on an Android phone and here’s what happened:

    No problem with Google browser
Native Android browser (don’t know what it’s called) sends the user to this screen after the billing address is entered:

Notice that there’s a big, empty box on the screen. Hitting the Continue button brings you to the payment screen, which looks like this:

Obviously, this is a massive problem and with Android and iOS users probably comprising
at least 60% of my visitors, it’s no wonder I’m not getting more orders!!!

To make matters worse, my hosting company (Bluehost) is having a problem with my server right now, so the website might not load!! Argh.

What adds the multi step checkout flow? Because that is not part of woocommerce core and might be what is broken here.

Not sure….perhaps an Avada theme thing? As far as I know, it’s always been billing on the first cart page, with a “Continue” button to the Shipping info page, which should lead to a shipping info page (actually, I don’t think it’s a separate page; the content of the checkout page just changes), at the top of which is a checkbox for “Ship to a different address”, which , when checked, exposes fields for shipping info. Otherwise, there’s a button to proceed to the checkout page.

I’m REALLY ANGRY right now because I can’t even go to the site to review the checkout flow because it just happens that the server is up and down, which never happens, but of course, it’s happening NOW. ARGH.

SO….thank you for your patience and for trying to help.

The Avada theme has a Woocommerce tab in their options page, which offers

    “Use Woocommerce One Page Checkout

Check the box to use Avada’s one page checkout template.”

This is not checked. Perhaps I should check that in the hope that it gets me out of the woods?

EDIT: Tried checking that and the problem still occurs, just on one page. It should be noted that my browser (Safari on iOS) is populating my email address and password under “Billing Details” on the checkout page every time, so I have to manually remove them. Clearing my browser’s cookies and history seems to get rid of the problem altogether but I have no idea what users or experiencing or it the blank screen android issue has anything to do with this.

Seems like I may have to open a ticket with the theme developer? I thought this was a Woocommerce issue.

Yes, I’d enable that and use our flow to see if it helps.

Also, I don’t know if you updated to WP 4.5 recently, but some themes have issues https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/wp-45-and-jquery-syntax-error?replies=12 https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/read-this-first-wordpress-45-master-list?replies=7

Thanks. See the edit above. Didn’t help. I’m currently doing a full backup and will update WP. It looks like the them just posted an update, too, so I’ll update everything.

EDIT: I see that you’re saying that 4.5 *causes* problems. In that case, maybe I should wait, which is what I was doing on purpose….or maybe just update my theme?

Yeah wait for your theme to support it. Maybe get a staging setup running to test updates.
