I realise this may not be very constructive, but at least it’s better than giving a bad review just cause I don’t like something: You really should ask if I want style/layout changes made to the admin. I’m just trying this theme out for a potential client and it is infuriating to have the admin area messed with.

By all means, add functionality and style your additions as appropriate, but I don’t want to be distracted by layout or style changes to things that have nothing to do with the theme, such as the profile page. Not only is it annoying for me, but if I’m trying to set up a site for a client who already knows WP to some extent, it’s going to be disorienting for them. If you want to suggest changes like this that are not the remit of a theme, it definitely should be optional and it should be clear how to turn them on and off.

  • Hey @nyodulf

I’m a long time Blocksy user, and as such not affiliated with the developer, but I still appreciate your approach with your criticism – posting it here, instead of just leaving a poor review, as I know the developers go a long way to do things right.

I too do not appreciate custom styling in the backend, especially when ten different plugins uses different styles. That said, I can’t really think of any major changes made by Blocksy? Sure, in the customizer, graphics are used to illustrate layouts, and toggles have a iPhonish look, but in my opinion nothing deal breaking.

Changed styles to the profile page? That surprises me. The user profile page? Are you sure they are Blocksy related? Mine looks totally, for good or bad, as they have always looked, regardless what theme I use.

    Consider posting a screenshot.

    Kind regards
    Bjarne

@nyodulf thanks for the feedback, it’s appreciated!

Just so we can have a productive conversation, which edited sections seemed obtrusive and inappropriate? Are you talking about the customizer or it is only about the user profile which you mentioned?

The goal with the customizations was to be as close to Core’s design guidelines as possible but also accommodate our options, at the same time. We understand how important it is to stay consistent with Core’s design language and keep the user flows the same.

We’d be happy to make adjustments to our styles but we first need to understand which parts are the most problematic.

    Looking forward to your reply!

    Best,
    Andrei.
