Not having Featured image

    Is it possible to go directly from the nice Boardwalk front page, press a picture there and go directly to the blog post, but avoiding that blog post to “repeat” the front page picture?

    We want the blog post to immediately show a slideshow gallery on the top of the page.

    We want to avoid vertical scrolling as much as possible, and repeating that picture is felt like an unnecassary replication. One could include that picture in the slideshow gallery anyhow, f.ex. let it always be the first picture by some design default.

    The url sent here is just experimenting, work in progress.

    Another question from aclassifier: I see that there is no “Editor” tab in Appearance tab, so I assume it’s not possible to make a Child of the Boardwalk theme? That could in case have been used to handle the question above?

    If you navigate to the Content Options panel of the WordPress.com Customizer, you’ll find a Featured Images section where you can control where images do or don’t display. Uncheck the option next to “Display on single posts” to prevent the featured images from appearing in the header of single posts (but keep them on the main home page).

    Your site is hosted over at WordPress.com while this forum is intended for folk who are hosted elsewhere and running on the free software available here at www.ads-software.com.

    The difference between the two types of WordPress (WordPress.com and www.ads-software.com) is an understandable and common point of confusion. If you’re unsure of the differences, then this guide gives a good overview.

    It’s not possible to edit the theme’s code or create a child theme under the free plan on WordPress.com. If you upgrade to WordPress.com Premium or Business, you’d be able to add custom CSS. It would also be possible to upload a child theme under the Business plan.

    As your site is hosted over at WordPress.com, the forums there are the best place for to get support. If you have any extra questions then please start a new thread on the Themes forum:

    Thanks for the info about “Display on single posts”! It wil be tried!

    My daughter’s real page is hosted by one.com; this was just a test we thought. But testing there has more semantic differences that I didn’t know about. Thanks for telling me!

    About the difference between wordpress.com and org. I also use one.com to host my page at https://www.teigfam.net/oyvind/home/. I downloaded WordPress to it originally several years ago, I seem to remember. I believe now I had not needed that, but I haven’t changed it.

    I also have single page at https://aclassifier.wordpress.com (yes:com) doing nothing

    But I still don’t understand if there could in theory be made a page called https://aclassifier.www.ads-software.com (yes:org)? Or does WordPress let all hosting be at .com?

    Hi @aclassifier,

    It wouldn’t be possible to set up aclassifier.www.ads-software.com, no. To further clarify some of the differences between WordPress.com and www.ads-software.com:

    WordPress.com is a hosting service, you sign up and start creating a site straight away. We handle many of the technical tasks involved with hosting a site on your behalf, such as security and backups. Free sites also have a free site address that includes “WordPress.com” in them.

    www.ads-software.com, on the other hand, is where you can download the core software that WordPress.com is built on. That software can be used with any host of your choice, such as One.com. Hosts like One.com often provide staging URLs (similar to how WordPress.com provided free site addresses).

    As www.ads-software.com isn’t itself a host, you wouldn’t be able to set up a site like classifier.www.ads-software.com.

    Very clear!

    So .com may also be free, courtesy of WordPress, when they include wordpress.com. Like, my single page there is free, which I knew, but didn’t think about.
