Not in documentation: protecting downloads?

I am considering a shopping cart for my site, and noticed one of my existing plugins has integration with yours. Your description mentions selling digital goods, but I went to your website looking for info on how digital goods are protected, and your knowledgebase came up blank??? Maybe I could learn how your plugin handles direct url’s here. . .
