ahrefs audit is raising lots of issues with gtanslate and when we asked for help with these they indicated that it was not a google requirement and effectively they were not interested in looking at.

    1. Missing reciprocal hreflang (no return-tag)
    2. Hreflang to non-canonical
    3. Self-reference hreflang annotation missing
    4. X-default hreflang annotation missing

Further translation is causing a number of issues with speed of the site and causing slow load results for translated pages. With this and many of the factors above possibly ranking factors gtranslate is becoming a not have rather than a must have.

So while the software translates well there are a number of technical seo implications with their product which they don’t want to address.

    Hi,

From our side hreflang tags are configured properly. If you want a specific configuration, please mention exactly what do you want and we will try to help.

We are ready to look into the issue if you see any issue reported on the Google Webmaster console.

    1. We do add return tags
    2. Yes, that is totally OK as far as you have canonical tags defined correctly
    3. We do add self-referencing hreflang tags
    4. We do not use x-default hreflang as it is being used for very specific cases when the website has a page not dedicated to a specific language audience, like a welcome screen offering to select a language to continue.

Translated pages can be slow when we discover new content and translate it, but after that when everything is translated and cached it will be fast and comparable to your website speed. If you also allow us to cache your original pages on our side it can be faster than your original language page.

    Thanks! ??
