Not possible to escape lists

Hi,
Love the plugin but I have a problem with lists. It seems it is not possible to escape lists because the escape character gets lost on save roundtrip.
For example if I type the following:

1\. something

somethine else

2\. another

another else

Then the save turns it into the following:

1. something

somethine else

2. another

another else
