Not printer friendly in Firefox
-
Thanks to Ron for providing such a well-supported & versatile theme, which I am now using on my second design. I don’t remember seeing this issue on that other site, but with the current version of Frontier, set to use a child theme and under WordPress 4.1.1, printing does not work beyond the first page in Firefox.
I have moved all my customisations out of the way, so all I have now is an empty child theme style.css (i.e., it does nothing but import the parent style.css). Therefore, as far as I can tell, this theme is not printer friendly in Firefox “out of the box.”
I tried some things to fix the problem, especially resetting the “clearfix” CSS (class style “cf”) which renders some of the content as a table cell, with no results yet. Our printing problem looks like what I have seen in older browsers when tables spanned multiple pages and the content would start in the wrong place or get mysteriously cut off. It also looks like an “overflow” issue, but I can’t find anywhere in the parent CSS where this would cause our problem.
I will upload a sample if that would help, but the problem should be visible easily enough. Both “Print Preview” and actual printing in Firefox show only the first page of long page content, for example these long pages on our site:
We see this on both Firefox Linux 36.0 and Firefox Windows 36.0.4 – note also the navigation bar (which we’d normally suppress when printing) appears by itself on the first page, before a single page worth of content prints on the second page… then the footer on the third page, and no more. Chrome, on both Linux and Windows, works normally, as does Internet Explorer.
I haven’t found anything else on the support forum about this, which is strange, since we have not customised the live theme except for standard settings in WordPress. It’s very likely a Firefox bug, but even if so we need to find a way around this problem before we publish this site.
