• Installed WordPress in just a few minutes on our local Linux server. The install was truly fast and easy. The trouble is: WP displays perfectly on the monitor connected to the server. But other computers pull up the WP page as plain, ugly text. It’s as if the CSS is not being applied.

    Example:

    Hello world!

  • I’m sure it is an issue related to installing WordPress locally. It sounds like it can’t find your CSS file to load it over the network, maybe the link to the stylesheet is absolute, not relative?

I would look at the source code of the rendered page on your machine, and one of the other machine’s, compare the stylesheet URL, and see if there is a reason it wouldn’t be able to find that file.

Thank you for your input. Agreed that it’s not accessing and/or reading the CSS–at least that’s the working hypothesis. We’ll keep after it and see what we come up with. One possibility is that the file permissions aren’t configured properly…

thats probably because you used localhost as the url when you installed. use a real IP.

whooami was absolutely 100% correct. We plugged in real IP numbers and WP started working perfectly. Many thanks for your input!
