    Hello.

We have the following setup of a wordpress site (for several reasons we can’t update wordpress yet):

    Wordpress 4.9.6
    Wordfence 7.4.2 (not premium)

We have setup an email to get the alerts and set them up to “low” in order to get all alerts (from low to critical). However, even if we are getting an alert for a “medium issue” if we go to the scan’s result url (that is linked in the email) we get different results. Eg: we can see in that page a “high issue” (update wordpress core version), but that issue is not informed in our email.

There are other “medium” issues that are not informed in the email we receive.

We were not able to set it up so all issues are informed in the email. Is that the correct behaviour? We are we not at least getting the “high issue” alert in our email? We have set up the email alerts limits to “0” (according to what is described, that would mean *no limits* and should send all email alerts as they appear).

Finally, my last question is: how often are those schedule scans run? I have not seen it mentioned.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hey @rominatrix,

I believe you actually want to set the Alert me with scan results of this severity level or greater: feature to either High or Critical to receive all potential threats.

    https://www.wordfence.com/help/dashboard/alerts/

Can you please give this a try and let me know if it helps?

    Thanks,

    Hi Gerroald!

Thanks for your reply. We’ve tried it as you suggested and set it up to “high”, we ran another scan and even if the scan detected the high issue, we did not receive the email (wordpress is correctly sending emails and the email account is working and it hasn’t gone to spam).

What else do you think we could try?

    Thanks again!

    Hey @rominatrix,

    Thanks for the update.

The timing of emails is usually pretty quick, but sometimes they can take a bit. Can you test this by navigating to Tools > Diagnostics > Other Test, which is at the very bottom of the page? You’ll notice two options to send test emails.

Send a test email from this WordPress server to an email address
Send a test activity report email

Please let me know if you receive these, or if your other email report arrives.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Hi Gerroald!

    Thank you for the follow-up.

Even though we are aware that sometimes emails can take their time, we were always able to receive them. However, we did both tests you suggested and I can confirm that both tests were successful:

    > Wordfence Test Email
    > Wordfence activity for 22 enero, 2020 on [our domain]

I’m wondering if there’s any other parameter that might be bothering here that I might not have mentioned and that’s preventing Wordfence from sending us all the alerts? Another idea I was thinking of is the combination of an older version of WordPress and the version of Wordfence we have, as I mentioned in my first post.

Do you think that any of that could be at play here? It’s so important that we receive the alerts, specially the high ones and we’re not understanding what’s happening cause even if there are many setup options they are pretty self explanatory.

If there’s any other information I can provide that might shed some light on this issue please let me know.

    Thank you again,
    Romina

    Hey @rominatrix,

I’m not sure this is a configuration issue at this point. Can you please install a SMTP email plugin to see if it helps? The SMTP method is more reliable than the PHP mail() function that WordPress uses.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Hey @rominatrix,

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’ve gone ahead and marked this thread as resolved.

Please feel free to open another thread if you’re still having issues with Wordfence.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald
