• I have WordPress as an open source application used for discussion boards via Network Solutions Web Hosting.

I have gone into “Settings” “General” from the Dashboard and entered the correct email address into the field entitled “E-mail address…This address is used for admin purposes, like new user notification.”

I have also gone into the “Discussion” section and checked “E-mail me whenever anyone posts a comment.”

However, I am not receiving any email notifications when I do these settings.

Incidentally, when I set it up so that I must approve/moderate the comment, the email notification does work, but I would rather not have to do the moderation.

Could somebody please help me figure out how I can receive the email notifications? Thank you.

-Have you tried a different email address?
-Have you checked your spam folder?
-Have you asked your webhost about this problem?
    -try this plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/

Hi t-p. Thank you so much for the ideas. I have tried multiple email addresses. None of them work. The email I want to use does work for notifications when I choose to moderate. For now, this is my workaround…I will deal with the downside of moderating to ensure I receive notification of new posts. Nothing was in the spam folder. The web host, Network Solutions, punted the problem as a WordPress problem. I’m not sure I understand that plugin, so I’m a little scared to try it. I welcome any additional ideas.

then what is it that does not work? I am a bit confused.

There are two settings to which I am referring:

    1) “Email me whenever anyone posts a comment”
    2) “Before a comment appears, an administrator must approve the comment”

When I check 1) but not 2), I get no notification
When I check 1) and 2), I get the notification

I want to be able to check 1) but not 2) because I don’t want to have to moderate every comment.

Basically there seems to be a bug in the WordPress system where checking 1) has no effect. Can somebody please fix the bug?

I don’t think there is bug.

Both settings seem to be working fine in my WP installation.

    have you tried:

-deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to narrow down the problem. If the problem goes away, activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin.

-switching to the unedited default theme (that came with your version of WP) for a moment by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes. The idea is to force WordPress to fall back to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific issue.

I checked that I have no active plug-ins.
I am using WordPress 3.0.1. The latest version, 3.3.1 is not supported by Network Solutions.
I don’t know how to change the theme, nor whether the default theme is currently being used. I inherited this site from somebody else…

    Thanks for your help!

I don’t know how to change the theme, nor whether the default theme is currently being used.

you can find out by checking which theme is active in your admin. The theme that is active is being used.

    admin >>> Apearance >>> themes

It is using WordPres Default 1.6

do you see something like Twentyten, or Twentyeleven?

It’s probably the old default theme – Kubrick.

    Yes, it is Kubrick

try switching to the unedited default theme (twentyten that came with the WP3.0.1) for a moment by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes. The idea is to force WordPress to fall back to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific issue.
