I recently switched from WordPress.com to www.ads-software.com and ever since I switched I have not been receiving e-mail notifications when someone comments on my posts. I have it set up to email me whenever someone posts a comment, and I have it set up to allow anyone to post a comment (without requiring moderation from me unless the comment contains 2 or more links). I have the correct email address. I have searched this topic on the wordpress forum but none of the previous answers helped me. I don’t know what the problem is. Can anyone help with this?

  • Contact your web host and inquire what you need setup with them to access their SMTP server(s) when using WP. The host email servers need to send that email.

Ok, thank you! I will try that.

Unless you are sending from a Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc. address. Then it’s their servers, not your host’s, that need to send the email. Either way SMTP is the answer.

    Thank you for your response!

    What is SMTP?

I contacted my host and they had me set up an email account with them, and that seems to have solved the problem a little bit. I received an email when one person posted a comment but not when another person posted a comment. Also, now my site doesn’t seem to be recognizing me as the admin (when I reply to a comment it shows up like a reader instead of the admin). Does anyone know how to fix that?

    What is SMTP?

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is an Internet standard for electronic mail (e-mail) transmission.

It may take some time for all emails to push thru since the account is new – make sure to check your spam folder(s) for these emails.

If you are logged in you will see a comment as site admin. If you are not, you are then just another person commenting so login to review the comments.

Please also review what Comment Spam is and how to avoid it, particularly allowing folks to include URL’s within the comments shown on the site, those URL’s actually being to fake, malware ridden or otherwise undesired places to be sent to….

I hold all comments with any URL’s for review and have found out that 99.8% of them are SPAM.

Thank you Pioneer Valley Web Design! The e-mails finally came through… so I think you were right in saying that it may take some time since it was a new account.

I really appreciate your quick and detailed reply. Thank you for taking the time to help me! I will definitely review some information about Comment Spam. Thank you for that tip!

Glad to help. Please mark this post as resolved if so.
