I’ve tried to use WPForms so that readers can contact us, but the contact form just isn’t working.

First, GMail was sending all tests to the spam folder. I fixed this by adding a filter to GMail so that anything with the form’s subject will not be sent to spam.

But after fixing that, now there are no emails from the form at all! They aren’t in spam and they aren’t in the inbox. It is like they don’t exist. I can’t find any documentation on why this would be happening. It seems like the only way for me to get contact emails is by getting them in the spam folder.

Addendum: I disabled optimizing email sending and that seems to have done the trick. But… I still have two missing test emails. So I don’t know if this is working properly or not.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Check the logs of the SMTP server (the mail server sending the emails out). There you should be able to see if there is any problems sending the mails.

I have no clue what that would be. I set up a simple form and I have it sending to my GMail account. I didn’t connect the form to an SMTP server.

    Hi @livingthedisaster,

The Optimize Email Sending option allows your forms will process notification emails separately from form confirmations. If you’ve had reports of your forms taking a long time to submit, or if your forms send out a lot of notifications, this option may help cut down your form’s submission time.

However, enabling this setting is not recommended for users with low-traffic sites, as this may increase email delivery time substantially. This setting is also not intended to fix email delivery issues.

If you still encounter any email issues and if your notification settings are correct, the issue is likely due to configuration issues, and/or strict email spam prevention settings that are wrongly detecting the notification emails as spam.

To resolve email delivery issues like this, you can configure a SMTP plugin on your site so that emails are sent as authenticated. We have an article with a list of recommended SMTP options and links to their setup tutorials.

    Hope this helps!
