Hi and thanks for the plugin!

The site is under construction so it’s closed off to visitors. My situation is this: client has large catalog of images taken on phone which need to be minimized in size and dimension. This works great using your plugin since the phone won’t make image sizes small enough for my liking in kb (also using plugin for sizing it to 950×950). However, when uploading photos for the homepage, I need the images to stay their current size and dimension as I size them in Photoshop before uploading them.

The only way I can get this to work is to ‘turn off’ your plugin either inside the settings or disabling the plugin. I’ve tried various tests by toggling settings and image sizes (only have the box ticked for 2048×2048). Their images they send over are 2160×2160. The image I would be using for the homepage max is 1200×800.

So I figured I would just manually revert my homepage images back to original dimensions. I have in your plugin ticked:

    Resize original (950×950)
    Back up original

    I do NOT have ticked:

Disable scaled (not able to use this since their sizes are over 2048×2048 and I want theirs optimized)
    Optimize original

So when I go to the uploaded picture for the homepage (1211×800) in media it says it’s already optimized, but it resizes it to 950×628 (this one was rectangular as theirs are typically 1:1 so it does 950×950 exactly). There’s no option to revert the 950×628 back to its original dimensions anywhere. It says: Smush Skipped: Image is already optimized.

Under ‘edit more details’ it shows a link to the original which just pops up in a new window. If I download and check the dimensions, it IS the original size. Nowhere else am I able to ‘revert’ it to original dimensions. Again, maybe this is just by design. However, if there’s something I’m missing, I’d be grateful for your suggestions here. If it’s not possible, could this be something in a future release?

Thank you for your time and expertise!

    Hello @iguanamom

Hope you’re doing well today. I am sorry to hear about the issue you are facing.

As far as I could understand the situation you are looking to have the homepage image dimensions set to 1200×800 but currently it is rendering an image with Dimension 950×628, Am I correct on that part?

If that’s the case, and you have Resize Original set to 950×950 I reckon this could be causing the higher dimension image to set to the 950 px threshold.

The only way I can get this to work is to ‘turn off’ your plugin either inside the settings or disabling the plugin.

Could you please share more information about which inside settings you are referring to?

There’s no option to revert the 950×628 back to its original dimensions anywhere.

Smush will not be able to revert the image automatically to the original dimension as it has been already resized as far as the information about the settings you’ve shared.

Although you should be able to restore the original image(s) since you have “Backup Original Images” enabled in Bulk Smush settings.

However, since it is only the homepage image. I would recommend you make a full backup of the site and disable the “Automatically compress my images on upload” and “Resize original images” options in the Bulk Smush settings >> save settings (please DO NOT run Bulk Smush) and then upload the homepage image and check if that shows with the dimensions you expect.

Please refer to the screenshot: https://monosnap.com/file/N3xsVZDk7ZgCfamRIEHYJgLl4wjw37

Additionally, the image dimensions are also defined by the container sizes where the image is shown on the front end. However, if the above does not help, we would need to check the site homepage on the frontend to see how exactly the image could be adjusting the dimensions.

Please let us know how it goes. Awaiting your response.

    Kind Regards,
    Saurabh

Thanks for your help here. You’ve basically answered my question with this:

“Smush will not be able to revert the image automatically to the original dimension as it has been already resized”

I’ll just needed to know if it was possible or not. Thank you!
