Not right for our site I guess
-
Really wanted to like this. NextGen had just done a major update and they were having lots of issues, plus I didn’t like how small they had made their thumbnails. We decided to let NextGen work out their issues and try to find a gallery plugin that would work for us in the meantime. This is when I found Gmedia! Easy to understand once I poked at it for a couple minutes and I loved the size of the thumbnails.
We use galleries for our photography that we do at conventions. This is a very time sensitive thing as we are uploading multiple images per day and getting many views so people can find pictures of themselves. When I found Gmedia, I uploaded a couple photos and went to bed. The next day when I went to upload another chunk, it said everything was uploaded and when I looked at my site to confirm, they were all there! But looking at my site in incognito, or other computers, the new images weren’t there. What? I found out that I could see the newly uploaded images because I was logged into WP. Huh. Weird. Well okay, let me just delete the whole album and upload it all again and see what happens…
It works! All the images are there and I can confirm this on other computers as well. Later that night, when I tried to upload another chunk, IT DID THE SAME THING. No new images showed up.
I decided to go to the forum to get some help. Developer was very prompt and suggested that I just needed to clear my cache. Okay, fair enough. Cache issues are frequent with plugins and webpages. Cleared cache on all computers. Same thing. Cleared server cache. Still nothing. So I took a poll on my facebook. 95% of my friends could NOT see the new images that I had tried to upload. A grand total of 2 people could. Developer still insisted it was a cache issue.
So we called the company that hosts our server. No cache issues, no other issues with our site. So I just said f*** it. I don’t have time for this. Deleted the album, made a new one, new images appear.
Now today the images wont open on Firefox. My dad actually alerted me to this (I use Chrome so I didn’t notice). He tested it on his work computer and home computer. The album worked on Chrome, IE, and Safari but not Firefox. It’s just unacceptable for us. A lot of our users use Firefox and for the images to just not open? Nope! Went back to NextGen. I can deal with tiny thumbnails because at least the plugin works.
