    Hi,
I am sure it is me, but I am not understanding:

    1)
The plugin says you can hide menus but I do not see a way to do this – there does not seem to be a checkbox or anything to completely hide a menu like Posts

    2)
    The free plugin says:

    Upgrade to Pro:

    Role-based menu permissions.

But I can set roles for a menu – eg for Posts I can go to Extra capability > And select a role.

So why does it say this can only be done in the pro version?

    Please clarify, thanks

The free version doesn’t have a checkbox. To hide a menu item from role X, you need to change the capability setting to something that X doesn’t have. For example, on most sites, changing the capability to “manage_options” would hide the menu from everyone except the administrator.

To completely hide a top level menu like “Posts”, you also have to hide all of its submenu items. This is just a quirk in how admin menus work in WordPress.

It is a bit confusing, yes. I couldn’t come up a more clear way to describe the feature in one short sentence.

Basically, what “role-based menu permissions” means is that the Pro version has a list of roles at the top of the settings page. When you click on one of the roles, checkboxes show up next to each menu item. You can hide menu items by unchecking them.
