Okay I finally got it!
If anyone else has the same trouble:
In the standard WP menu builder (I was looking for a “max menu builder”)
you will see a little button on the menu item when you hover, click it, then you can add a widget. Also, there’s a setting in the expanded mega menu item called “sub menu display mode” it was set to “fly out” by default and nothing showed in my menu. I changed it to “Mega Menu” and it worked. Not sure what that setting is about..
I used empty custom link menu items to hold the widgets. Apparently you don’t add the widgets from the normal WP widgets page, although the widget you add to your menu will appear there, in a special column called “max menu widgets”.
This is a brilliant plugin, although difficult to learn. I can’t believe it’s free!
Thanks!
