    So, I installed the plugin.

I did the plugin settings, then went to the user settings.

I can see a code and a barcode square. I installed the chrome add-on. The instructions say, “If you enable this plugin then you verify with the code below before logging out.”

Well, I wrote the code down and then I enabled, and the code changed. I didn’t log out but tried to log in via Chrome with the code there (6 digits). I couldn’t log in. So, I tried with the new code. I could not log in.

Back in firefox, I just disabled, because obviously this isn’t working. If I have a 6-digit code, why do I need a barcode square and how would I even read it in Chrome if I couldn’t log in to see it? How are you supposed to verify before logging out if there is no other page or field or anything for you to use and how would that add safety when logging in if you already verified the code to begin with?

    I don’t understand.

    Hi Starlight_Design,

The FAQ’s a great place to start for first-time users: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/two-factor-authentication/faq/ – it explains how TFA works.

The thing that needs verifying before you log out, is that whatever app your choose to use for TFA (it sounds like you’re using a Chrome add-on) is showing *the same code* as is shown in the plugin dashboard. This verifies that your app is set up correctly. If it doesn’t, then either a) you did not enter the private key correctly into your app, or b) the device that the app is running on has very inaccurate time.

The bar code is used by apps that run on phones or tablets that have the ability to scan bar codes. For those apps, it’s much quicker to scan the bar code than to type in the private key by hand.

    Best wishes,
    David
