• Hi everyone. I’m very new to all this and still learning how to work things out with www.ads-software.com. So i’d really like your advice on this. I have been working on WP.com as well. But I would like to know how to build websites with WP.org. I was thinking of not registering a domain and a host yet until I have fully tried out with WP.org which will also save me some money in the meantime and to take time to learn. So I have just started learning about MAMP. i have successfully downloaded it and its running. At the moment i’m not facing any issues yet. I would like to know you opinions if any of you are doing the same and if this is good option to learn more about WP.org using a localhost. Then when I’m ready and my website is all set to go, i will then purchase a domain and hosting plan. Is this advisable? if no why? Thank you all for your comments and advise.

I’m using “Local” to run a local site on my mac… Click the “lightning” link at the top of this page: https://localwp.com/ (Note: It’s free.)

    I’m using the URL wplocal.local.

Hey @sterndata thanks for the reply. I’m using the MAMP software (the one with the elephant). How different is this from the one you are using?

But what i’d really like to know is that it’s ok for me to go ahead and design my website using a local server until i’m happy and already getting the hang of WP.org before purchasing a domain and a hosting plan?? Is this like a commun practice? Because i know normally people start off by purchasing a domain and hosting plan immediately and then start building their website.

2ndly, is there any difference when designing the website using a localhost than paid host? (i know you are offline, and no one can access your site, etc) But like is there anything that might hinder certain features from functioning using a localhost?

Sorry for the long questions, it’s just that i’m totally new at this. Thank you.

Yes. Unless there’s some potential demand for the domain name you want, don’t buy it until you’re ready.

Aside from the inability to share the site (as you mentioned), there should not be any problems.

I’m using the MAMP software (the one with the elephant). How different is this from the one you are using? Or does it really matter?

Once im ready to publish my website, how can I do this? ( Is just by purchasing the domain and hosting plan?) Like will all my media and content will be uploaded automatically?

    Thank you.

No, your content will not be loaded automatically. There are migrations plugins you can use or you can do it manually.

No idea. I’ve never used MAMP.
