    That’s because this plugin doesn’t update the actual database, it uses client-side scripts to populate the alt tags. So as far as the search engines are concerned (or anyone else viewing your site), the ALT tags will always be populated for every image without one.

    I made this specifically to be as lightweight as possible, and its sole purpose is to appease the Google’s desire for all images to have alt text. If you run an HTML validator with the plugin active, you’ll see 0 warnings for empty ALT text. ??

    I reworked some of the things you mentioned. If you have the updated version of 2.4.3 you can now generate and save alt tags to the database for all images previously uploaded to the site. It is available under Tools >> SEO Image Tags. Also, in addition to the frontend image tag optimizing, I added functionality to automatically generate and save alt text for images upon upload.
