Posts not loading

I’ve used this plugin before and it’s worked brilliantly. However, with a fresh WP 4.4.1 install on a new site the posts are not loading for some reason:

I did everything I normally do with the plugin, shortcode here:

[ajax_load_more category=”news” repeater=”default” posts_per_page=”3″ transition=”fade” button_label=”load more news” scroll=”false”]

I have three posts in category “news”. The <ul class=”alm-listing”> is loading, but no posts are population within it.

Any idea what the issue could be?
