What have you tested already to debug?

The plugin works fine out of the box, but if you have a 3rd-party login tool or something that filters logins, it could be conflicting.

I’m not sure how to debug it, but I’m using Ultimate Member for login/registration. Is there a known conflict with that plugin? Thanks for the filter I’ll try that out.

See how they use um_before_new_user_register ? That’s not a normal WordPress function. So the plugin doesn’t know how to hook into it.

You could probably extend the logic used for WooCommerce – https://github.com/Ipstenu/ban-hammer/wiki#woocommerce – to do that, but it’s not going to work since UM doesn’t use the normal WP functions for registration. ??
