Hi @iamhere, sorry for the late reply.
The Slick Slider plugin has unofficially reached its EOL. There are a couple of reasons for this:
- The underlying “slick” jQuery library has been abandoned since around 2017/2018 and is technically highly outdated
- The WordPress plugin wrapper code I wrote mainly in 2016 is also highly outdated
- The plugin never worked with the block editor (“Gutenberg”) mainly because of the unavailabilities of corresponding APIs in the block editor’s early days
- Although the “Classic Editor” plugin is installed on a lot of website websites, the future is definitely block-based
- I only use block-based systems with custom-made, client-specific carousel implementations (if any) and, therefore, don’t use the plugin anymore on any system nor have the need to maintain it
- Due to personal reasons (family, etc.) I don’t have much spare free time and have absolutely no resources (or willingness, TBH) to work on a plugin I don’t use myself
- With the block editor natively supporting image lightboxes, it will only be a matter of time until it will also support gallery carousels, removing the need for external plugins
As you may understand, investing time and resources into a plugin targeting non-block systems doesn’t make sense, especially since the underlying slick library will no longer be updated.
That being said, the plugin still works just fine in non-block editor (“Gutenberg”) systems, i.e., on systems running with the “Classic Editor”/TinyMCE. This is why I haven’t officially abandoned or closed the plugin. I won’t update the “Tested up to” version, though, because this will raise wrong expectations about compatibility with the block editor.
images are not centred, arrow missing on the right, images not displaying at full size etc.
If you are experiencing distortions like the one you described, this is most likely caused by plugin or theme conflicts.
Is there a GIT we can contribute to ?
Yes: https://github.com/tyrann0us/slick-slider. Feel free to create PRs there, but as stated above, I won’t be able to reply in a timely manner or do any testing.
Thanks!
