  • On the test page I added the standard Download Monitor shortcode as a reference. I can download the file using the shortcode. Interestingly though, the download counter does not appear to increment. There could be other issues on this site because I noticed that the Toggle File Browser does not appear to populate with folders, while on my other site it works AOK. I suspect there is some plugin/scripting conflict. However, while I’m documenting in case, I don’t think it is relevant to the current problem.

I certainly hope you can replicate the issue!

I reverted one of my broken sites back to WordPress 4.3.1 and can confirm that Email Before Download works again. I am now very confident that it is WordPress 4.4 which precipitates the problem.

    Hello,

Thank you for bringing the issues with 4.4 to our attention. Thank you dtynan for offering the advice that you have so far. We are working on an update to address the incompatibility.

    Hello M&S Consulting EBD team,

Thank you very much for the notice about the update for 4.4, it is much appreciated!

I would like to again thank to dtynan for the help provided.

+1 for this – the fix is urgent and badly needed on our side ??

Thank you for your help and the plugin (which has worked smooth as a breeze so far…)

    Hello,

Thank you M&S for the plugin.

I have the same issue. it’s a javascript problem.

I patch it with a chicken thief technique :
I create an empty cf7 form and put the cf7 shortcode just before yours. that made the job for me. ??

Thank you mandsconsulting for noticing this post and for working on a solution =)

Your plugin has brought me great return and user experience for our visitors.

Hope you manage to update it so we can enjoy your plugin again ASAP.

All the best for you and the team behind the plugin!

We are encountering the same issue here. We built this website on 4.3 and launched today w/ an auto upgrade to 4.4 (oops) and getting the same URL error: https://www.nexj.com/wp-content/plugins/email-before-download/download.php?dl=64987ba19526feac41fd6355a898731f

Thanks for trying to get us an updated version, we have 100+ downloads that are not working.

When I reverted one of our sites back to WordPress 4.3.1 using a Duplicator Pro backup, I disabled auto-update!

    Prevent automatic WordPress Updates
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Configuring_Automatic_Background_Updates#Core_Updates_2

    define( ‘AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED’, true );

Hopefully this upgrade prevention strategy will not be required for long.

    Hello @mandsconsulting,

I am wondering if you have provided an update to the plugin as of yet or a fix? With xmas over now, I am hoping this plugin will have an update sooner then later?

    Hello,

After some testing, EBD has worked with installations of WordPress 4.4. We were unable to duplicate the errors described. If those who are having issues can confirm that both Contact Form 7 and Download Monitor are working on their own, and provide us with a test page then we can take a look.

We might also be looking for a common plugin or theme that those with difficulties are using.

    @mandsconsulting

I was having the same issue as the original poster. However, I have never tried your plugin with any version of WordPress besides 4.4.

After much testing I have narrowed the issue down to a conflict with MailChimp for WordPress.

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/mailchimp-for-wp/

It seems that your plugin does not like when the Contact Form 7 fields (first-name, last-name) are replaced with the ones MailChimp for WordPress uses (mc4wp-FNAME, mc4wp-LNAME).

Interesting and thank you for mandsconsulting for your testing efforts so far. If EBD works with a vanilla WordPress 4.4 installation, perhaps there is a conflict with one of the common plugins we use across our sites, which use different themes. We do not use MailChimp. It is interesting that a number of sites using EBD were suddenly impacted after the 4.4 update. I wonder why?

Hi mandsconsulting and thank you for testing.
I’m using 4.4 but not using Mailchimp for WordPress either. I deactivated all plugins except for:
    – Advanced Custom Fields Pro 5.3.1
    – Contact Form 7 4.3.1
    – Download Monitor 1.9.1
    – Easy FancyBox 1.5.7

and the issue is still there (I get the following URL: /wp-content/plugins/email-before-download/download.php?dl=28a23c596931898900933729ceeccbbb – the values after dl= change for each download)

Also in my case the issue started with the update from 4.3 to 4.4.

    Thanks @mandsconsulting BUT…

The issue still remains for most of us. As mentioned above, we are also not using Mail Chimp with our theme and encountering the same errors (/wp-content/plugins/email-before-download/download.php?dl=28a23c596931898900933729ceeccbbb).

I have two versions of our site running, one Live and one Staging. When upgrading our live website to 4.4, EBD no longer works and throws the error above BUT when running the tests on my staging site (WordPress 4.3) EBD works perfectly, no issues what so ever.

We really need a fix for this or we will have to search else where for something similar ??
