    Hi,
I am using your Custom Sidebars plugin, version 2.0.7. It is a terrific plugin. It works on all my pages, except for one very important page: the “Posts page”, the page that is the blog of posts. The custom sidebars simply do not show up on this one specific page.
I am using a Genesis child theme called Enterprise Pro 2.0.1.
I was curious if anyone else is experiencing this same issue?
    Thank you for your help.

  • Hi @leonardshelby,

Greetings and thanks for posting! Sorry if you’ve had trouble with that, let’s see how we can sort it. ??

There would need to be a sidebar in that post template for the theme in order for the plugin to add widgets there.

Could I ask if there is a sidebar (widget area) there? If so, are you able to add regular widgets there?

Looking forward to your reply. ??

    Cheers,
    David

    Hello David,
Thank you for responding to my question.

To answer your question: Yes, there is a sidebar widget area in the Posts page in the Genesis child theme that I am using (Enterprise Pro). Right now, I have set this widget area to “Primary sidebar”. This is a default sidebar that comes with the theme. I would like the sidebar to be a Custom Sidebar, but no Custom Sidebar will display on this page, in any widget area.

So my workaround for now is to use the Primary sidebar for the Posts page, and place my widgets in the Primary sidebar.

I think that answers your second question: I am able to place widgets in the Primary sidebar, and the widgets are displayed on the Posts page. So I know the Posts page can display a widget area, and that widget area can display widgets.

    Hi @leonardshelby,

Thanks for your clarification about this. Could I ask, is that Blog page also your site’s front-page?

Also, to help get a visual, could you please provide a screenshot of the settings at Appearance > Widgets?

Screenshots can be posted to any free service like Dropbox, Google Drive, screencast.com, etc. And you can simply post a link here.

If possible too, could you provide a link to the site, where the sidebar should be? If not, no worries, it just could help spot something.

That’ll help us see how everything is configured and hopefully we can sort this out really quick with that. ??

    Thanks,
    David

    Hello David,

My Blog page is not the site’s front page. There is a separate, static front page.

I did what you asked and took a screenshot of Appearance->Widgets and uploaded it to my Google Drive.

This is my first time sharing something with Google Drive, so I sure hope it works. If you have any trouble accessing the screenshot, please let me know.

    Thank you for your help,
    Joe

    Hi Joe,

    Thank you for your reply.

I could reproduce the same issue on my test site for the posts page using the following configurations and setting the page as a static Posts page on the below path.

Admin Area -> Settings -> Reading -> Front page displays -> A static page (select below) -> Posts page

    Configurations:

    WordPress single site 3.9.1
    Custom Sidebars plugin version 2.0.9
    Default WordPress Twenty Fourteen Theme

I have notified this to the plugin developer and it will be fixed shortly.

    Thanks,
    WPMU DEV

I have the same issue. When can we expect the update?

As a sidebar is more relevant to posts than to pages (Recent Posts, Comments, Categories, etc.) at its present state this plugin is not very useful. I hope developer recognises that.

    Hi @sarumbear,

I hope you are well today.

Could you please tell me what’s the issue you are facing?

As a sidebar is more relevant to posts than to pages

The Custom Sidebars plugin works with every posts types.

    Please advise.

    Kind Regards,
    WPMU DEV

I have a set page for blog posts, like the poster above and the theme’s sidebar is not replaced. They are always empty.

My comment was because having the sidebars on pages work as expected is no help as a sidebar is more relevant to posts than to pages.

    Hi @sarumbear,

    Thank you for your reply.

Could you please try using the solution posted in the following reply?

I have already said above that:

I have a set page for blog posts

    The link suggests:

If you have set front page as static blog posts page then you can set the Custom Sidebar for that page.

I can’t change my blog structure. Is that the only way this plugin works?

    Hi @sarumbear,

Yes currently this is the only way it works for blog posts page, i have already notified the plugin developer about it to make it work with non static blog posts page but We don’t publish ETAs to prevent disappointment if a deadline is missed(which in plugin development quite a frequent occurrence!).

Please advise if you have more questions.

    Have a great day!

Thanks for the reply. I have switched to ‘Content Aware Sidebars’ and it works without any issues.

    Hi @sarumbear,

Very sorry for the long delay here.
Now the good news: We have just released a new update of the plugin that solves the issue with the Posts-Page / Front-Page sidebars! It is resolved in version 2.0.9.2

Thanks a lot for your contribution in pointing out this bug and sorry again for trying your patience. I hope that you will give Custom Sidebars another look in the future ??

    Hi Guys,
I cant seem to get a custom sidebar working for an individual post but seems to work fine for a single page.

Its the first time out of many that this plugin hasnt worked for me, not sure if it anything to do with using pagelines dms now or not?

Why doesnt it work for my posts but it works for my pages?

    Thanks for your time. Ben

    Hi @benh_82,

Sorry to hear of the problem you are having.

I have tested the latest version of Custom Sidebars plugin on my test site and found it’s working fine for individual posts and pages.

Could you please tell me how you have configured it for individual posts( Attach screenshot of it if you can ) ?

For screenshots, you can simply provide a link to an image through Google Drive, Dropbox, screencast.com, https://imgur.com/ or other image service. ??

You can just try on your development site deactivating all other plugins and using default WordPress theme like Twenty Thirteen as displayed in the following flowchart to know which theme/plugin is conflicting if any.
