Thank you for the link. I have looked at the URL of the images. They seem to be uploaded into the media library – good.

To go on it is possible for you to take a look into the database of the website? If yes, please search for the value ‘https://blog.maptobuy.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Crime_rate_in_london.png’.

If there is no result then it seems that the images are stored with other URL values. In this case the plugin can not find the images.

If you would get a match – then I would not have a glue what is going on.

I’m having the same problem. Here is the site (still building): https://mediacookery.com/nathannowack2015/

For example, the post https://mediacookery.com/nathannowack2015/portraits/batman-family-portraits-disney-music-center-concert/ has images in it and all images are in the Media Library.

As you suggested to khzidan, I searched the database for the first image URL in that post, https://mediacookery.com/nathannowack2015/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/batman-family-portraits-disney-music-center-la-1-1024×7101.jpg, and found an exact match in the wp_xxx_posts table.

Still, the plugin doesn’t set a new featured image when I select “Set the first post image as featured image.”

Does your image file have the size information “1024×71?1” in the original file name? if yes, that is the reason in your case.

Normally if you upload an image into the media library WordPress generates copies in different sizes as given via “Settings” => “Media”: thumbnail, medium, large. And WP adds the size information in the filename. But in the DB only the original file name is stored. So the plugin takes the file name as found in the post content, removes the size information and searches for the new file name in the DB.

In your case the plugin searches for https://mediacookery.com/nathannowack2015/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/batman-family-portraits-disney-music-center-la-1.jpg and finds nothing.

Your case is one more example to show how difficult it is to write a reliable algorithm for finding an embedded image in the WordPress database (this is neccessary to get the ID of the image, otherwise it could not be set as featured). There are so many circumstances you can not know.
