• This plugin wasn’t working for me and I had no idea why. Surprise! It took a little digging, but I learned that the regular WordPress admin toolbar is not what you see on a WordPress.com Business Account (which allows you to install plugins). It seems that WP.com has their own toolbar, so this plugin and others like it won’t work because you can’t see the regular WordPress toolbar. (I should have picked up the clue when admin color settings didn’t affect the bar across the top.)

If I’m wrong, I’d love to hear it. I have no idea why wp.com decided to replace what was a useful toolbar, or why there’s no way to disable this. And in the meantime, I have no idea why wp.com would even let admin toolbar customizing plugins be enabled on a site.

    Thank you for your feedback!
I am really sorry you cannot use my plugin currently on wordpress.com – but at the moment I cannot do anything about it. I was not aware they replace the whole Toolbar on .com accounts.

However, I will try to contact Automattic (WordPress.com owner) if it is at all possible to customize the .com Toolbar for plugin authors. I doubt it will be but you never know.

I currently have no business account at wordpress.com so cannot even test it out. I will report back my research results.

Thanks again for making me aware of all that.
    Have a great week!

    Hi again,
I got an answer from WordPress.com support and it might be possible to “tweak” this a bit for you. The principle is to disable the WordPress.com Toolbar so it falls back to the default one from WordPress — and then my plugin should also work again.
However, I cannot test it as I have no business account on .com

See the answer below for the code snippet necessary:
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/customizing-wordpress-com-toolbar-possible-for-plugin-authors-business/

As a code snippet plugin I would recommend this one:
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/code-snippets/

    Hope this helps you.

Thanks, David! I will definitely try this out. The Jetpack bar is next to useless.

And I appreciate the plugin link. I have no inclination to hack core.

PS — I’ve enabled the snippet and enabled your plugin. Works wonderfully!
