Nothing but problems since last update
-
I’ve had nothing but problems since the last WordPress and Jetpack update. First, my site loses connection constantly; then I can’t log into my site from mobile, it’s like on a continuous loop and it won’t publish and just sits there. My post was supposed to out the door an hour ago and I’m going to lose traffic as a result (i.e. revenue).
This is too much of a coincidence that all these issues arose right after the updates yesterday. I’ll be reaching out to my host (Siteground) to have everything reversed until there is a solution.

I’m sorry to hear you’ve run into issues.
The log in issue you’re mentioning doesn’t appear to be happening to others who updated to WordPress 4.6:
https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/read-this-first-wordpress-46-master-list?replies=5We also haven’t received such reports for Jetpack either.
It could, however, be a conflict between WordPress 4.6 and one of your plugins, or a conflict between Jetpack and another plugin.Could you try to deactivate each one of your plugins, one at a time, and see if you find a plugin that seems to create the login issue, or stops you from publishing?
You could also try the following:
Edit your site’s wp-config.php file, and add the following:define('WP_DEBUG', true); if ( WP_DEBUG ) { @error_reporting( E_ALL ); @ini_set( 'log_errors', true ); @ini_set( 'log_errors_max_len', '0' ); define( 'WP_DEBUG_LOG', true ); define('WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false); define( 'CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS', false ); define( 'SAVEQUERIES', true ); }
Once you’ve done so, try to publish that post again. Then, check the
wp-content/debug.log
file for errors, and paste the results here. You can then replacedefine('WP_DEBUG', true);
bydefine('WP_DEBUG', false);
in the code above. That could help us figure out what’s stopping the publishing process on your site.
Hey Jeremy,
Thanks for getting back with me. It’s the Membership plugin I use for my subscribers. When I deactivate that, it will allow me to publish.
I’ve sent an email to them to update their plugin. Really irritated because I lost my draft that took a couple of hours to write, which I’ll have to try to recreate tomorrow morning. As you may tell, I have a hard time letting go and forgiving LOL.
Thanks!
Hi Keith: thanks for the update! Hope they’ll update things for you soon.
Marking as resolved as the issue was with another plugin.
This is a hot mess. Now another plugin stopped working. Everything works fine when I deactivate Jetpack but stops when I reactivate it.
I do not have a debug file located in the wp-content folder that you were referring to but I did paste the code into my wp-config file and tried to post but it still doesn’t work.
I had Siteground roll back my site but then lost my draft that I had finished for posting and they can’t get it back. I updated both Worpress and Jetpack again to no avail. Jetpack is the problem. The two plugins I’m having issues with compatibility are updated on a regular basis (WordPress Popular Posts and Memberpess).
I am now going to be a week behind on posting since Friday morning is the day to post to get the most responses. I’ve requested Siteground restore my site yet again to the most recent day. Once that’s done, I have no plans on updating Jetpack until this is resolved. I cannot afford to not have my Subscriptions not working and not be able to post.
Sorry, the compatibility issue is not these other plugins it’s yours.
Okay forget my last tantrum. I did more troubleshooting and found MemberPress plugin is the main culprit but even when it’s deactivated I still have an issue with a top post plugin and the Jetpack social sharing no longer connects. When I try to refresh the connections it fails (error message about the header).
MemberPress will be logging in by tomorrow to troubleshoot themselves to see what the issue is. It’s still odd because they indicated no one has had any problems with the update and the same was said by the author of the top posts plugin.
I guess all of sudden it’s just my site having these problems, which is odd because I use Customizr Pro for my theme so unless some I’m not really sure where to start.
Anyway, the only thing I need help with is getting the Social to reconnect. when you have a chance. No hurry, I have a feeling there’s going to be other issues that I haven’t discovered yet.
error message about the heade
Could you let me know what the exact error message is? It would also help if you could let me know your site URL, so I can take a closer look.
If you want it to remain private, you can also contact us via this contact form:
https://jetpack.com/contact-support/error message : Jetpack: [auth_failed] Authorization header was malformed
For some reason, even with MemberPress deactivated it won’t allow me to connect social media but the contact form does work as long as my subscription plugin is deactivated. I’m hoping to have that resolved today.
Thanks!
Do you have any other plugins active on that site at the moment? What happens when you deactivate them all? Does it help in any way?
In addition to this and my Membership Plugin issue, my site has been under DOS attack. I just got back in and am setting up Wordfence and will keep Jetpack and Akismet running though. I’ll go through and deactivate everything then let you know what I find.
Good grief Charlie Brown. I had already deactivated each plugin one by one with the same results. Deactivating MemberPress resolved the posting issue but not the countless others that were piling up as I kept getting emails from subscribers to my site about one issue after another.
Then I decided to start deactivating Jetpack services one by one to see if that was the issue. Sorry I hadn’t thought about this before since I know Photon has never worked on any iteration of my site no matter which theme I was using.
I got down to the bottom and deactivated “Spelling and Grammar” and poof; like magic all issues magically disappeared. There is your culprit. I like this particular feature in Jetpack if it can be resolved; otherwise I’ll just write all my posts in Word and then copy them over prior to publishing.
I’m sending you the debug info to via the support section in a bit just in case you need that information.
Thanks!
Thanks for giving that a try. Could you let me know what problems disappear when you deactivated that module? Did the
Jetpack: [auth_failed] Authorization header was malformed
error disappear from the Sharing Settings page when you were trying to connect your site to Social Networks, or was this about another error?yes it did and the contact form issue resolved itself as well. I still have social icon issues but that’s more likely to do with a Customizr Pro update since that’s always an on and off again issue with them.
Another plugin Worpdpress top Posts still isn’t working correctly and the author is checking it out now.
I had several renewals that went through while it was down and were processed by PayPal and Stripe but did not update on the admin end so those folks were unable to log into my site. Taking care of those now one by one.
Probably the biggest remaining issue is that Jetpack seriously drags down my admin. It’s near impossible to get any work done. Once deactivated, everything is quick and speedy as it should be. I made sure my cache plugin wasn’t caching my admin panel and it’s not. So, something is going on as related to Jetpack and I have since deactivated it permanently since I cannot work like this. I’ll post to social manually and look for another contact form plugin elsewhere. I’ve added Wordfence for security purposes.
I’ve been using Jetpack for years now with virtually no issues and I’m sorry but it’s time to walk away. Maybe again in the future since I prefer to keep the number of plugins I use to a minimum but I just can’t wait for an update. The potential of losing subscribers to an update on the site (3 so far) is nerve-wrecking. I’ve been in customer service management for years so I can handle it but generally prefer not to.
Your help has been greatly appreciated.
I also have MemberPress and issue with Jetpack Publicize!
Did you solve that problem? And how?
yes it did and the contact form issue resolved itself as well.
Could you tell me more about that contact form issue, so I can try to reproduce?
Probably the biggest remaining issue is that Jetpack seriously drags down my admin. It’s near impossible to get any work done.
That’s definitely a problem. Could you try to deactivate each Jetpack module, and let me know if one module in particular appears to be slowing dow your site?
@duff1 Could you please start your own thread, as per the Forum Welcome?
https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/jetpack#postformThank you!
After deactivating all of my plugins one by one and isolating one issue with my Membership plugin, it resolved the posting issue but not the others. So then, I reactivated everything and deactivated the services in Jetpack one by one. That’s were the real issue was.
The contact form no longer appeared and the social would not connect for posting and my admin kept timing out just trying to get into it. Once all the services were deactivated with Jetpack still active my admin was still painfully slow but I could post again.
I’ve lost too much time on this and money on this and the faith of many followers to be able to resolve issues. I had no other choice but to dump Jetpack, though I didn’t really want to. I don’t use a lot of the services but I did use several and liked them. I’ve since made up for them with other plugins. Sorry, but I had no choice.
For your troubleshooting purposes, spelling and grammar was the main culprit on my site. Can’t speak for anyone else.
